Life & Work with Brandon Chatman of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Chatman.

Hi Brandon, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Well, I came up with the idea about I wanna say September Ish 2018. I was a big fan of Versace and I know how expensive Versace is so once I bought my first Versace shirt I would out and when I would I seen that somebody else had it on and one thing about me is I don’t like looking like nobody else I wanna be my own individual. I wanna look like nobody you know what I’m saying so all that that month, I began searching up things wanting to make my own brand and here in Houston the word playa is our culture so I took that playas only and made a brand start putting up shirts. I’ve been doing it now for like I wanna say probably nine years now a lot of ups and downs I’ve gotten to a point of where playas only was paying my bills every month what I made for my clothes will pay my bills. I got so good to the point that I ended up having a store. I had a store for about two years didn’t really know a lot about the store and what all comes with it the ups and downs, but had a store for two years after I let the store go. I’m still selling merch online as well as in person as of today Playasonly is known in Texas in pretty soon the whole world

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road. You’re gonna have your up and downs with everything some of my struggles were managing profit paying a rent in my shop on time making sure you know all those things are done making sure I re-up on Moore merch after it’s been sold so I think the biggest thing now is being more organized understanding when things need to be bought when things do not need to be bought. Those are part of my biggest struggles. One big struggle I had was in the shop. My AC went out during the time during the summertime where I had a lot of customers coming in and when they were coming in, you know it’s hot so it was kind of hard for them to shop for me to stay there so that was probably one of my biggest struggles when I had my shop and the AC went out. We’re gonna have to retake.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I learn that u get what u put in and this business. You have to keep you product in ppl faces. I specialize in designing shirts I have sock glasses that are pretty popular. I’m most proud of not giving up most brand be here today n gone tomorrow but to be here almost 10 years consistently I’m very proud of myself and team(brothers) what sets me apart from others I think my work ethic I’m never not making something I drop items almost daily always working

Any big plans?
I want to get another store n just to get recognized nationwide we still dropping every week always tryna stay ahead
