Life & Work with Breuyna Lastie of Westheimer Rd.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Breuyna Lastie

Hi Breuyna , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi everyone, My Name is Bree, others may know me as “Trippy” or ColorMeTrippy, I am a Hairstylist and MUA who just relocated from New Orleans. I started doing Makeup in 2014 at a local mall while working to get my cosmetologist license. I became licensed in 2016 and ran to work at one of the hottest salons in business at the time “Kaleidoscope, ran by Ms Miracle Drops herself, this was a blessing for me. While there I learned the arts of lace installs working a side a great hairstylist and had the opportunity to provide makeup services for CEO of crayon case “Supa,” and Love and Hip Hop’s “Tokyo Vanity” since they would visit the salon so often. The more they were there, the more they were able to see my work on others, that eventually led to me doing their makeup on the regular. Moving forward I became known for makeup but always wanted to do both. My passion for hair , being colorful and always looking to stand out was the exact reason I went to Kaleidoscope , I felt like it fit my personality and I knew I could grow being there. I focused on perfecting the latest trends in hair from coloring down to lace installs since it was taking over the industry, Fast forward to 2024, I am here in Houston ready to push my services and expand my brand and business.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being in the cosmetology industry is not as smooth sailing as people may think, trends change, having to keep up and continue your education is not cheap or for the weak. You have to have tough skin and be able to take criticism very well , keeping in mind that feed back negative or positive is there to help you grow. When you’ve been in this industry for a while, you learn that all money ain’t good money, and every client is just not for you and that’s okay.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a versatile Hairstylist and MUA. I specialize in hair extensions, from lace installs down to your classic quick weave, it can be done. I also have a thing for hair coloring but hair care is a big importance to me.
As far as an MUA , I have a high range in that department as well. I can give a soft glam for your business event or I can create a FX Micheal Jackson Thriller look if that’s what you’re needing. I am very proud to say that I am blessed to accommodate whoever has the opportunity to sit in my chair, I love to challenge myself and take my skills to the next level. And that is also what sets myself aside from other stylist and MUA’s, once they get comfortable they stay there and that can get dangerous and boring in this industry.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see myself changing the game for the salon industry, right now everyone is so interested in having a suite and being private, I’ve experienced having a suite for years and noticed I wasn’t getting the exposure that I needed, my clientele didn’t have much range and I hated that. I want to get back to having a salon that take walk-ins, and not just appointments only, creating a safe and fun environment for women to relax and work in. Even if I decide to retire by then, I still want to build a beautiful salon that welcomes stylist to a great experience while working.
