Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Andrus.
Brian , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Our mentoring program started with a vision to challenge and help our youth with one single program. We wanted to be impactful, but not just for a few years while we served them throughout their days with us but we wanted to create a relationship with the youth that showed them a “support system” that surpassed their little league years. We started with seven kids our very first practice session which eventually led to us providing mentorship to over 100 boys and girls.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, we’re actually grateful for it though, it brought us closer and closer causing us to depend on ALL parts of our mentors. We quickly became FAMILY! At first we thought financials would be the biggest hurdle, but we soon learned it was more than money, we wanted to create an environment conducive to the development of our boys and girls. I would say making sure we connected with the kids before outside influences occupied their thoughts and time.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in Oil and Gas Safety as well as Project Management. I started off as a Safety Trainer which over the years afforded me the opportunity to wear different hats throughout me career. One of my greatest achievements was becoming a safety diver. It was pretty strenuous training but it paid off in the end. I also take pride in knowing through all of my years of service, my firms have not experienced any major safety accidents
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the diversity of our city as well as the city pride! Houston has some pretty die hard fans. I’m originally from Lake Charles, La but all my sports teams are from the “H”. If I would have to pick something I like the “least” I would have to say traffic.
