Today we’d like to introduce you to Britney Curry. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Britney Curry began her fitness journey at a young age, graduating from Merrillville High School(Merrillville, IN) as a three sport athlete, with basketball being her primary focus. Britney’s passion for basketball lead to her being a student athlete at Rockford College, earning All-Conference awards all four years. While at Rockford, she also pursued her interest in the sciences, ultimately earning a B.S. in Biology with a minor in Chemistry.
After suffering two separate ACL injuries(in 2005 and 2015), Britney understood her true passion, helping others. Britney is a performance coach who focuses on functional training and sports performance. She is certified through the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists(CSCS).
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road. After graduating college I had no idea what I wanted to do. I felt driven, at the time, to use my Biology/Chemistry degree. I landed a job as a Quality Assurance Chemist and maintained my position for five years before I understood being a chemist was not for me. The struggle of not having full support, the lack of female representation in the fitness industry, and fear definitely have made the road challenging but I would not change a thing.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a full time strength & conditioning coach/personal trainer. I specialize in sports performance training as well as functional movement. I am known for improving the overall movement and health of individuals. I believe what sets me apart from others is truly getting to know my clients and helping them understand fitness/athletics is not only a physical appearance but mental strength as well.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
My biggest lesson due to Covid-19 has been everything you have is everything you need. Gyms were closed or limited to members but that created a space to enjoy outside workouts, runs/walks, and at home workouts.
