Life & Work with Britt Beresik of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Britt Beresik.

Hi Britt, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Born and raised in Houston Texas, the Texas two-step was practically a part of my DNA. At 9 years old I was able to learn the foundations of dance in my ballet, tap, and jazz classes. Music and the means to express it helped to nurture a new-found passion within my soul. I also loved to dress up in costumes and perform in recitals, enacting out the stories being told by the music. Music has always been at the center of it all.

Once in high school at Langham Creek, I tried out for the award-winning Langham Creek Bailadora dance team, but I did not make it! This was a pivotal moment in my life. My stubbornness would not let me fail and turn my back on my passion. The following year I worked even harder and made the team! I ended up serving as an officer, as well as earning numerous top dancer awards. College and “adult-life” soon followed where I continued to dance but only as a hobby; dance then did not seem like a practical career path. Following my mind more than my heart, I completed my Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science from Texas A&M University. I married the love of my life Bryan (going on 15 years) and enjoyed a career as a Medical Technologist, until I had my 2 littles- Bowen and Bailey. Bryan, being a petroleum engineer, moved our family all over the United States (which happens to be a VERY important detail in my line dancing journey).

In 2013 while living in Gaylord, Michigan, I discovered my first line dancing class! Addiction set in. So much so that after moving again to Midland, Texas and finding lack of line dancing, I was determined to start my own class! Working to develop “Cross The Line Dancing” with local friends, we grew and performed at local festivals. Three years later, the call to move came again, out briefly to Northern California and back to Houston in 2018. It was after training with Elsa Campbell for about 1 1/2 years, I inherited the job to lead her Intermediate class. Cross The Line Dancing HOUSTON was born!

Unfortunately the new branding didn’t even have chance to take root when 2 weeks later the Covid19 pandemic shut everyone down. Still fueled by the desire to dance, I decided to “pivot” my classes to Facebook LIVE, as well as start choreography lessons from the world-famous Rob Fowler’s virtual I.C.E program. Choreographing dances became an exciting extension of my line dance passion. While “surviving” the pandemic at home, I figured I would organize an online line dance event. The Texas onLine Dance Partee in October 2020 brought a free line dance workshop to dancers world-wide while promoting some local US talent, and shockingly I grabbed the attention of a few big event directors. Ever since, my #LineDanceLife has been a fantastic whirlwind for me.

Currently I teach weekly classes in the Houston-area as well as occasional instruction for private events. It has been an absolute honor to teach, lead, and judge dances at several major U.S. events including Florida Line Dance Classic, Heart of Texas, the Yellow Rose of Texas Line Dance Extravaganza, the Texas Line Dance Jamboree, LoneStar Invitational, Palm Springs Winter Break (Choreography Winner), Vegas Dance Explosion, and Line Dance Branson. Recently I’ve participated in some exciting new projects. I was honored to appear in March 2025 on Fox & Friends at the Fox News studio in New York City where I was joined by 2 fellow Texas line dance instructors in teaching the anchors how to line dance. Currently, one of my newest line dance choreographies called “Locked In” will be featured in a music video for country singer Bill Nash’s new song release “Locked In Your Lovin’ Arms”.

Although my children are now becoming budding line dancers themselves, I am most proud to be their mom and support them in their passions. I have founded and currently lead an afterschool LEGO club at West University Elementary School for my son, as well as assistant coach my daughter’s 7U Softball team. Busy as it all sounds, the take-away is it isn’t about the passions you pursue- whether it be line dance, LEGO, or sports. The best part is the community and the friendships I have made through following my heart.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Let’s be honest. Nothing worth pursuing is going to come without struggles along the way. I have had my share of failures, be it losing dance competitions, being overlooked for teaching spots, or even battling the challenges of virtual instruction during the pandemic time. But I truly feel that everything DOES happen for a reason, and nearly each struggle I have faced, I’ve been able to look back upon in the future with some clarity as to why things had to happen that way to make me the person I have become. It’s odd to share this, but I do feel like I was made to dance and teach. If I had not hit the road bumps I did, I may not be where I am today.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Although I love dancing for the sake of dance, I find joy in helping teach others. When I am leading a class, instinct kicks in like an out-of-body experience. This is what I feel like I was made to do, teach others to share the joy of music and movement on the dance floor.

I’d say a majority of my students tend to be seniors. I have taught in countless active senior communities around the Houston area, because line dance is a great form of exercise – not only for the body but for the mind. Studies show that line dancing in particular, is a great way to delay the onset of Alzheimer’s. Through this mild exercise, adults improve their mobility, balance, coordination, all while burning a few calories too. And its just plain fun!

I love teaching my adults, but since I am also a mom myself, teaching children has become a fun new frontier. There is a very different learning style with children. I get to come up with creative names for the moves, and the joy that is tangible throughout the room is contagious. Kids have zero inhibitions when it comes to dancing, so it allows me to also “let loose”!

I feel that my teaching style and abilities set me apart, as I have learned and studied under some of the best line dance instructors around the world. I do also enjoy writing new dances as a personal challenge and for artistic expression. When we dance, its more than just moving to the music. The steps and motions tell a story that we get to physically and emotionally express. There is no better therapy. So when I write a dance, I want the music to come to life. In doing so, I create videos for my dances that fit the musics feeling and lyrics as a form of artwork.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
That it’s not what you do, it’s who you do it with! Line dancing is such a community unifier. It includes all genres of music and is accessible to all ages and abilities. It transcends languages and brings people together from all over the world. The world-wide community of line dancers has become my extended family and completely changed my life. It truly is an amazing feeling to think that I could go absolutely anywhere in the world and through my dance connections, find another dancer who would have my back and be instant family.
