Life & Work with Brittany Nicole of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Nicole.

Hi Brittany, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my journey around 2014 while I was in college. I’d spend hours at thrift stores like the Salvation Army searching for denim and vintage windbreakers that I could reconstruct into something completely new. At the time, my business was called Designs by B. Nicole, and I fell in love with the idea that clothing could have a second life. Every piece was one-of-one, and those early years taught me how to see potential where other people saw something ordinary.

As much as I loved reconstructing garments, I eventually realized I wanted to create something that was entirely my own. I stepped away for a while, and when I returned in 2020, I reintroduced the brand as B. Nicole Brand with a completely different vision. Instead of redesigning existing pieces, I wanted to build garments from the ground up—from the first sketch to fabric sourcing, fit development, trims, construction, and final production. It took nearly three years to find the right manufacturing partner, but looking back, I’m grateful I didn’t rush the process because it gave me time to refine my point of view as both a designer and creative director.

In 2023, I launched my first original collection, and since then I’ve continued building B. Nicole Brand one collection at a time. What started with ribbed dresses and bombers eventually evolved into sport-inspired ready-to-wear, where tailoring, movement, and bold color became defining elements of the brand. As the work evolved, so did the opportunities. My first hometown runway show opened doors to Kansas City Fashion Week and other runway invitations, and each experience has reinforced that growth doesn’t have to happen overnight. I’m proud that B. Nicole Brand has been built patiently, intentionally, and piece by piece. Every collection reflects not only where I am creatively, but also the years of persistence it took to get here.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I don’t think I would change the journey. One of my biggest challenges wasn’t necessarily learning how to design—it was learning how to trust my own creative instincts. In the beginning, I questioned a lot of my ideas and often wondered whether they were “good enough.” As an independent designer, you’re constantly making decisions without anyone telling you you’re on the right path, and that can be intimidating.

Building B. Nicole Brand also taught me patience in a way I wasn’t expecting. It took years to find the right manufacturing partner, and there were moments where I questioned whether I was moving too slowly compared to everyone else. Looking back, I’m grateful I didn’t rush. Those seasons gave me time to refine my design language, understand product development, and become a better creative director—not just someone who designs clothes.

Today, I don’t measure success by how quickly something happens. I measure it by whether I’m building something that can last. Every challenge has strengthened my confidence, my perspective, and my commitment to creating work that feels true to B. Nicole.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m Brittany Nicole, founder and creative director of B. Nicole Brand. I see fashion as more than clothing—it’s one of the most powerful ways to tell a story without saying a word. Every collection begins with an idea or an emotion that I translate into something people can wear.

My role goes far beyond designing garments. I lead every collection from beginning to end—developing the concept, building the visual identity, directing campaigns, producing runway presentations, and shaping how each story comes to life.

What I’m most proud of is staying patient. I’ve never wanted to create just to keep up. I’ve spent years developing a point of view that feels distinctly my own, and every collection is another chapter in that evolution.

What sets B. Nicole apart is that I don’t just release clothing—I build experiences around it. I want people to connect with the feeling before they ever touch the garment.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
If I had to choose one quality that’s been the most important, it would be consistency. Not perfection—consistency. Building a brand means showing up even when things are moving slower than you’d hoped, when life gets busy, or when the excitement isn’t there every single day. Those are usually the moments that determine whether you keep building or quietly walk away.

One phrase that has become a personal motto for me is ‘Keep the main thing the main thing.’ It’s a reminder to stay focused on the work instead of getting distracted by comparison, outside opinions, or trying to rush the process. Every collection, every runway, and every opportunity I’ve had has been built one intentional step at a time.

I’ve learned that success isn’t usually one big moment. It’s the result of consistently choosing to create, improve, and move forward—even on the days when nobody else sees what you’re building yet. Those small decisions compound over time, and eventually they become the foundation people recognize as “overnight success.”
