Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameron Achee.
Cameron, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was raised with a strong culinary background imbedded with home grown vegetables, hunting, and fishing. Grew up in South Louisiana where food is a way of life. Went to culinary school in Baton Rouge and preceded to work under acclaimed chefs including the famous New Orleans restaurant Galatoires. In 2007 moved to the Houston area and have been leading independent restaurant groups with a strong passion of culinary and helping others grow.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The restaurant industry has faced many struggles and set backs of course. With challenges comes growth. Profit margins in this industry are notoriously slim and with rising costs nationwide there is no safe place.
Those that immerse themselves in the community and are a place that supports its community will see that commitment returned.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I humbly recognize that one of my strongest characteristics is leadership. I have a true passion in cooking and sharing that love with others. I’m always so proud to have a former employee contact me saying they have received a promotion. Many of these employees originally hired as a dishwasher that I’ve had the opportunity to mentor. This industry is comprised of people from all walks of life and many times coming to work is a safe space that gives them a purpose.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
As a leader- I judge my success on my teams success. Not just my team, but the people I’ve impacted over time.
If the people I’ve led are not successful then I have failed not only them but myself.
