Life & Work with Cary Dyer II

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cary Dyer II.

Hi Cary, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I never thought I would be into fashion as deep as I am right now. When I first started to get into fashion was my sophomore year of high school. At first, I wanted to go to the NFL & play ball but unfortunately, I couldn’t due to injury & doctor’s orders. I tried anyways time and time again because I had a huge love for the sport but it just wasn’t happening because of the high risk of me getting injured again. So I looked to my next passion which is becoming a fashion designer. I started off by doing personal customs & hand painted pieces for myself & customizing Air Force 1’s for people that I knew and whoever hit me up for it. As I was doing custom clothing I didn’t have a name or anything for what I was doing. So one night I was thinking of what my brand name can be, and as I was thinking I was staring at a photo of when I was playing football. My first thought of creating a brand name is what is something that means a lot to me. After staring at the photo I was thinking and realized that the name of my brand will be ( Sixty Eight Clothing ) which was my jersey number. I named it that because even though I’m not on the football field anymore, I’m in a different field with that being fashion and the number will forever be with me. To fast forward to the present day I couldn’t be more thankful & blessed to be where I’m at today. By getting into the fashion industry I have seen a lot, been places, and got to know more people that is in the same field I’m in and also gained connections.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to be where I am today was not smooth but was not bad at the same time. I say that because by me being kind of new to being in the fashion industry I didn’t really know what it took to run a clothing brand, contacting manufacturers, where to get your t-shirts, fabric, etc. And the reason I said it wasn’t a bad road is because when I do something and put my all into it and make that my main focus, I already know its going to turn out great or better than I imagined.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a fashion designer/stylist born and raised out of Houston TX. I specialize in making custom clothing & do scheduled collection releases. I have been known for always looking good, dressing good, my personality and more people are getting to know me from my clothing brand & being a designer. I am most proud of just how far I have came with running my clothing brand & how I just went full force with learning the game of fashion versus just trying to get a product out anyway possible.

Every release, I try to make progress versus the last release and It doesn’t matter if it’s just a small change or big. I’m just going to continue to put out what I feel comfortable with & what I know the people will appreciate coming from the brand. And what sets me apart is that I have my own aesthetics when it comes down to taking photos of my outfits, the look of my brand, and how I go about handling things.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Well, what I have grown to learn is that sometimes to achieve a dream you have to take that risk. When you take a risk you don’t know rather if it’s going to go through or not but whatever you are taking a risk on and you feel in your gut that it’s worth it then It will pay off. For example, with me starting a new journey in the fashion business I took a risk on investing into my brand not knowing if it was going to go through or not but I had that gut feeling that it was going to be successful and I also had a huge support from my mother and siblings.
