Today we’d like to introduce you to China Watts.
Hi China, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
The reason behind The Peach Cobbler Queen (TPCQ) came as an unexpected surprise. I went over to a family friend’s home for a gathering and made a peach cobbler, the cobbler was gone within minutes with a request to make personal pans for their family. Through prayer and encouragement from a neighbor baker, I created TPCQ. TPCQ paid for graduate school while working as an RN part-time and created a new business endeavor for me for all of the Houston community.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The struggle of starting The Peach Cobbler Queen is getting my name out there and not confuse my business with anyone else’s. I wanted the community to know that my cobblers are often imitated but never duplicated! With any other new business is understanding the when, what, and hows of starting a business. Of course, being successful and making a difference is what any business owner would love to do but I often ask myself am I doing enough? I’m a home baker but can I use my product to bring joy to the community? The road is never easy but I believe that this journey I am on will bless many people in Houston and surrounding areas.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a home baker and Registered Nurse. I specialize in making homemade cobblers with different flavors that will have your taste buds wanting more! I am known for my unique take on cobblers like: My Fully Loaded Peach Cobbler which consist of powder sugar, cookie crumbles, whipped cream, and caramel drizzle, The Cinnamon Roll Peach Cobbler, Peach Cobbler French Toast, Crown Royal Peach Cobbler, Crown Apple Cobbler, HoneyBun Peach Cobbler, Pecan Praline, Lemon Blueberry, 3-headed Banana Cookie Monster, and of course my Southern Decadent Peach Cobbler!
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Starting this business was a huge risk because I did not know if people would take me seriously because of my age. I had a lot of skeptics because when you think of peach cobbler, you think of your granny in the kitchen. I got a lot of side-eyes when promoting my business but after one bite, I won them over.
