Life & Work with Crissy Lavoz of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crissy Lavoz.

Hi Crissy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey into baking started the way most meaningful things do, through love. A deep love for animals led me to explore plant-based living, and that naturally spilled into my baking. I discovered that vegan baking wasn’t about taking things away, it was about getting creative, and I fell completely in love with the process.
What started as baking for my family grew into something I never expected. I’ve had the honor of competing on the Silos Baking Competition for Joanna Gaines — someone whose warmth and creative spirit I truly admire — and I’ve had the joy of baking for celebrities and athletes along the way. Those experiences pushed me to trust my craft at a whole new level.
Today I run CasadCrissy, a cottage bakery rooted in the belief that indulgent food, art and compassionate choices can absolutely coexist. I create custom cakes and vegan baked goods that people genuinely get excited about — and I document the journey as a content creator, sharing the real, messy, beautiful behind-the-scenes of building something while raising five kids.
That part, the five kids, is honestly the throughline of everything. They’re why I started, why I keep going, and why I care so much about building a business that reflects my values from the inside out.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Honestly, no, it has not been a smooth road. In the early days I was barely sleeping, trying to pour everything into the business while also being fully present for five kids. Something had to give, and I made the decision to step back from baking for a while to get my family back on track. That was hard, because baking is my passion, but my kids will always come first.
Coming back to it with fresh eyes was actually one of the best things that could have happened. It reminded me why I started and helped me build in a way that was more sustainable for my family and my sanity.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in custom vegan cakes and baked goods that honestly make people forget they’re vegan. That is probably what I’m most known for, the ability to create something that feels indulgent and celebratory without anyone feeling like they’re missing out.
I’ve been doing this for over eight years, and along the way I’ve had some incredible moments. Competing on the Silos Baking Competition and having Joanna Gaines praise my plant-based Turtle Cookies is something I will never forget. I’ve also had the privilege of baking for celebrities and athletes, which pushed me to consistently show up at my highest level.
But honestly, what I am most proud of has nothing to do with accolades. It’s the relationships. I’ve gotten to be a part of people’s most sacred moments for years. I made someone’s gender reveal cake, then their baby shower cake, then watched that child grow up and kept making their birthday cakes every single year. I’ve baked for weddings, milestone celebrations, moments that families will remember forever. Getting to be trusted with those moments, over and over again, is what means the most to me.
That consistency and that heart is what sets Casa D’Crissy apart. It was never just about the food.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Most people see the cakes and assume baking is where my creativity lives, but honestly I’ve been a creative my whole life. I went to school for performing arts and I play guitar and violin. Music has always been a huge part of who I am, so much so that three of my children are named Melody, Lyric and Cadence. That probably says it all. Baking is just one expression my creative soul that has always needed an outlet, and I think that comes through in everything I make.
