Life & Work with Cydney Boudreaux

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cydney Boudreaux.

Hi Cydney, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up watching my dad take photos of everything. Every sporting event, family vacation, birthday party and I just thought “wow, how cool to be able to capture and savor a moment in time”. So then I became that friend always taking pictures and photos of everything. It wasn’t until college that I really thought about taking photos with a DSLR camera. Certain people, I experienced my freshman year really pushed me to take my curiosity for the love of photography to the next level. Learning how to pose people, coming up with concepts for shooting the whole nine yards. That Christmas my dad bought my brother and I the Canon Rebel Kit for beginners and I just drove straight into it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Before I really started taking photography seriously, of course, it was a smooth road but once I began to really gain confidence in what I wanted to do it became more challenging. Not only because of the pressures I put on myself but dealing with comparing my work to others been doing this for years. I’ve been blessed to have met some amazing people that really push my growth. Most recently though my camera was stolen and that completely flipped my world upside down. Thank God I still had my old camera but it really knocked me back a few steps mentally because I felt like I was back at where I started. I really went through a phase where I doubted if photography was something I should continue pursuing but I’m glad that the creatives I have around me really supported me.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I don’t think I specialize in any set type of photography. I’ve done photography for influencers, businesses, and artists. I love the fluidity of my work. It also makes me proud to say that I don’t just have one style, you know the saying “a jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one really describes me.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned and can say I’m still learning is to trust in your ability. Comparison is really a thief of joy and being in this field you really just have to trust yourself and know yourself. Know your strengths and weaknesses and then do the work to be better.
