Today we’d like to introduce you to Daira Padilla
Hi Daira, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started with working for an event photography company , the owner was our childhood neighbor Nayeli and she called me to ask if I wanted to help her , I always liked urban photography but had never touched a camera the brand of hers before, so it was all new to me but I said yes. With that company I worked quinceaneras, weddings and other small events…I definitely learned a lot from her and her company. When COVID happened the events stopped being so many and I decided to branch out , purchase my own gear and start Daira’s Photography with the help of my husband and encouragement from my best friend. We started doing mini sessions Christmas for example, my best friends kids as my models helped me a lot along with my husbands support in driving from one side of town to the other meeting new clients within a year we were all over Houston , Downtown, Sugarland, The Woodlands, Humble, even Fulshear! From there it was just one client recommending me to the other and I got to meet a lot of people some who all these years are still my clients and recommend me more clients! I didn’t put a label on my business as to just doing one type of photography so I often do maternity, family, parties , themed sets and individual portraits.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, for example starting when Covid was around was definitely hard because a lot of people were not interested in photo shoots and we had to reschedule a lot because of either my clients being sick or me being sick. Being a mom and a business owner is also not easy , I became a mom of 2 in the time I was getting my business up and running so being pregnant and working photo shoots was a bit hard but I loved doing it!
I was completely booked up until my last week pregnant and I loved working since I knew I’d take a break after.
It has not been easy but it has definitely been worth it and like I said before with the help of my in laws, my husband , family and my best friends the rocky road becomes more smooth. It’s really a team effort even if I’m the only one taking the photos!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
So I do all kinds of photography , family sessions , maternity sessions, birthday sessions , graduation..etc etc. , you name it I’m there!
I like to say what sets me apart from others is that as a mom I understand that things happen and if we can make it happen we will make it happen , it’s hard for us moms to get our kids ready for a session or to get ourselves ready for a session… at times we need more than a 5 minute grace period and I completely understand that so I always tell my clients if we have time we have time we will make it happen! Everyone deserves a photoshoot!
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory was just dancing and singing with my siblings, we didn’t get to do many things but the one thing we always had was the radio!
