Life & Work with Daniel Delgado of Galveston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Delgado.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m originally from San Antonio, and at 19 I moved to Houston to attend a ministry school—never imagining that choice would launch my professional creative journey. That path took me into local advertising, film, and music production, and ultimately to my current role as Marketing Director for Galveston Urban Ministries. At GUM, a small nonprofit in Galveston, TX, we are committed to alleviating poverty and restoring dignity to our neighbors on the north side of Broadway.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
About two years ago, I reached a point of burnout — emotionally and creatively. I was in a role at a bigger organization that didn’t leave much room for creative expression or celebrating the arts. Everything felt practical but uninspired. I didn’t have a supportive community, and some days it was hard to even show up for work.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I think my combined experience makes me stand out. I’ve worked and served in various roles and I think that perspective gives me a lot of empathy and compassion for people. On the specialization side, I’ve focused on video most recently, and I’m very proud of that.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I tend to think about things in a way that’s a bit upside down—often it’s the small, unnoticed moments that end up being the most meaningful and impactful. At the end of my life, if my family—my wife and our two girls—know they were truly loved and cared for, that would be enough for me. And for the people I work with and support, if they know I genuinely cared about them, that’s how I would define success.
