Darrin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hello! My name is Darrin Pryor and I am a native from Memphis, TN. I graduated from Tennessee State University in May 2015 with a Bachelors of Business Administration concentrating in Business Information Systems. I decided to move to Houston, TX in 2017. After moving to Houston, I started my journey in Corporate America working within the Cyber Security industry in Information Technology. While approaching seven years in the IT field, I was recently laid off from the company I initially joined when moving to the city in 2017. I was taken back when I received the news because it was totally unexpected and never saw myself being among the chosen few. I took some time gathering my thoughts and decided to take time for myself. I started to become more consistent with working out again, my mental health has improved tremendously, and I was able to focus on my entrepreneurship. My business, hDPixelz LLC , has reached its three year mark and doing better than ever.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, I would say that the last four years have been very challenging.
I’ve spent the last four years battling with wanting to stay within the cybersecurity industry or leave the industry to focus on things that bring me joy. After being laid off, I have been in a great mental space and have been able to focus on enhancing my skillset with my Photography and Graphic Design.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Currently, I am a full-time entrepreneur. My end goal is to have a Digital Marketing/Desktop Publishing company. I started my business by implementing Photography. The next phase will provide Graphic Design services. The third phase would provide videography and much more later.
My business name is hDPixelz LLC, and I have been in business for three years now. I am still growing and learning new skills that will take my business to the next level. I do not have a photography studio; however, I am able to set up my garage as my studio. My goal is to always provide clients with the best customer service experience.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I would provide two pieces of advice, and they would be to always research what you want to do and to also know that you will get better with your craft or goals by implementing consistency.
