Life & Work with DJ Jammin G

Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Jammin G.

Hi DJ Jammin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started to DJ in 2009. It all began when I was at a club in Midtown. The place was packed but the DJ seemed to be struggling to play the right type of songs for the type of crowd that was there. I basically told my friend that I could be a good DJ because I knew all different types of music and felt like I could mix them all well together. He told me I should try it and so from there I slowly started buying equipment, I started doing house parties for free just to get experience and exposure. Soon enough, I was being asked to DJ birthday and tailgate/cookoff events. The more exposure I got, the more gigs I began to get. I made my mark doing private gigs though. Weddings, Quinceanera’s, corporate events, graduations, and festivals kept me busy throughout the year. I was known to mix different types of genres and also play all types of Spanish music as well. When I wasn’t doing private events, I was DJing at various clubs and bars around Houston.

Many of the clubs in downtown, Midtown, Katy, and all surrounding areas have had me. My business prospers mainly off of word of mouth and referrals. I take a lot of pride in that because to me, it shows I’m doing something right. My biggest achievement in my mind is what happened during the pandemic. While we were all on lockdown in our homes, I began to get restless. One day, I decided to set up my DJ equipment and go LIVE on Facebook. I just wanted to jam out and see if anyone else out there wanted to listen/tune in. The response I got was enormous! Before long, I had people from all over the country tuning in to listen to me play my sets. They would all say that I helped them get through the pandemic and were so grateful for what I was doing. In all actuality, they all helped me as well to get through those tough times. To this day, I still get random people that come up to me to thank me for that. I am truly humbled by that. Today, I still DJ 4 times a week at private and public venues. I still love being a DJ!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Challenges have been a plenty. Cost of equipment is pretty rough. Also, in the DJ business you get a lot of haters that want to see you fail because “they” been doing it longer. I always stay positive and never get involved in that. It has helped me to become a better DJ. Also, DJing probably cost me my first marriage. I didn’t realize how to handle it at the time, and it took a toll on our lives. Since then I’ve learned to balance family and work life with my current wife. She is very supportive as well.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My biggest supporter by far has been my wife. As I previously stated, my work cost me a marriage, but my current wife has helped me to understand how to balance work and family life. Also, she is very active with my DJing and has encouraged me to excel even more professionally.
