Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominic Hines.
Hi Dominic, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a creative visionary who values showcasing Black excellence through every art form I choose to explore. My journey started in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, inside the walls of 332 Venetian Way — a place that became more than just a home. It was where I first connected with myself creatively and realized art could become a way to shape the reality I wanted for my life.
Over time, that creativity expanded into multiple outlets, including music, photography, graphic design, live events, and community-centered experiences. Each medium taught me a different way to tell stories, build connections, and create spaces where people feel seen and inspired. Today, my work is rooted in culture, community, and intentional storytelling, and I continue using creativity as both personal expression and a tool to uplift others.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. For a long time, creativity felt more like passion than something I could truly build a life around. I’m just now getting to a place where I can fully see that my creativity has the power to sustain me and open doors professionally.
As a post-graduate creative, one of the biggest struggles has been securing stable, full-time opportunities while still staying true to the work I love. A lot of creative careers don’t come with a clear blueprint, so there were moments of uncertainty, self-doubt, and trying to balance survival with passion. But through every challenge, I kept creating — whether through music, photography, graphic design, or curating events — and each experience helped shape my confidence, my voice, and my purpose.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a multidisciplinary creative who works across music, graphic design, photography, creative direction, branding, and community-centered event experiences. At the core of everything I create is storytelling — I love to build experiences and visuals that feel intentional, culturally rooted, and emotionally impactful. A lot of my work focuses on creating spaces where Black creativity, expression, and community can be celebrated authent
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about our city is the sense of community. Jackson and the Mississippi Delta have some of the most talented, resilient, and innovative creatives and community builders I’ve ever encountered. There’s a strong culture of collaboration here — people genuinely show up for one another, support local ideas, and create spaces that feel impactful and rooted in culture. That spirit of connection is what continues to inspire me creatively and professionally.
One thing I believe our city still faces is accessibility to certain resources and opportunities, especially for emerging creatives, entrepreneurs, and community organizations. However, I’m encouraged by the ways Jackson and the Delta are continuing to invest in the creative economy through arts, culture, storytelling, and community-centered initiatives. I think there’s a real opportunity for the city to continue growing into a space where creatives not only build culture, but can sustainably thrive within it as well.
