Life & Work with E.J. Santillan of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to E.J. Santillan.

Hi E.J., thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my journey with The Roula & Ryan Show with Eric in 2010 as an intern, and it’s also where I met my wife, Caroline. From there, I moved into the digital department, teaching myself photography and videography along the way.

During my time at KRBE, I had the chance to be part of incredible, once-in-a-lifetime experiences that pushed my creativity and storytelling skills to the next level.

For years, I did photography and videography work for free before landing my first paid client, filming a pub crawl for It’s A Houston Thing. While some people are hesitant about doing free work, I’ve always seen it as planting seeds, and even now I still receive calls and referrals from people I helped back then.

In 2022, I launched my own media company, Eight16 Media, named after my dad’s birthday, August 16. We focus on commercial projects, social media content, and helping businesses tell their stories through impactful, attention-grabbing visuals.

I also currently work with the Bridget Moore Group, combining my creative background with real estate storytelling to produce high-quality visual content that showcases properties, connects with clients, and elevates the brand’s visual presence. I owe a lot to Bridget Moore for teaching me so many crucial aspects of running a business.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of my lowest points came when business was slow. I had to learn how to put myself out there and promote what I do. That’s when I realized that not many people even knew I owned a media business. I made 1 video where I completely put myself out there and it helped my business grow.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in commercial videography, photography, and social media content that helps businesses tell their stories in a compelling and visually striking way. I’m known for my attention to detail, creativity, and ability to craft visuals that connect with audiences on an emotional level.

Any big plans?
In the future, I want to focus on a personal project called ‘One More Memory,’ where I interview families to create lasting videos they can cherish and watch for years to come.
