Life & Work with Esbeide Jaimes of Southwest Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Esbeide Jaimes

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I got the idea from a trip to Mexico; we were having a good time at a wedding and then out of nowhere we saw these tall robots with lights. They came to the dance floor and changed the whole mood of the party; everyone was so hyped up and was having a good time. Once we got back home I started researching the demand for these at quinceañeras around the city and realized this was a service people were paying for. I then reached out to a vendor in Mexico that makes them, and we ordered our first two robots, we started posting videos that we would perform first at our family gatherings, and we slowly started getting referred by others. We also reached out to venues when they advertised they were having an open house and we have attended the Quinceañera expos at the NRG, George R Brown, Traders Village & Plaza Americas.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, we have had our ups and downs. Including learning to fix and repair our robots. Finding dancers that know how to dance, because one thing is to be on the stilts and move and another is to be on them and dance and move to the music. We had guys call us wanting to dance for the company but then they would not show up and we were outside the venue with everything but the dancer.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At the end of the day what makes us happy is seeing everyone enjoy and have a good time with our robot entertainment business. Most of our customers hire us to be part of their special day and we hope we mark and make this experience memorable.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Being cordial and helpful to others in the industry. You never know when you might need advice or a helpful hand in a situation of need.
