Life & Work with Estrella Cruz of Houston Texas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Estrella Cruz

Hi Estrella , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi ! My name is Estrella Cruz born and raised in Houston Texas. I am 27 years young half Mexican & Honduran. I’ve always been naturally athletic, when I was 8 years old I use to pretend I was a ballerina and dress just like one until I was 12 years old join the school athletic team. I joined dance and played the varsity track field but knew my career as a professional athlete was not for me. When it came to choosing a career for my self I was leaning towards welding but it was a very masculine career and very dangerous. So I attended community college for an associate in science and then attended Paul Mitchell The School of Houston for my cosmetology license. I do want to earn my Bachelors in the future for Tech since I love the digital world. The Artsy side of me wanted to experience the cosmetology school of houston. I have so many hobbies, I love to travel, play video games, attend concerts and gain knowledge about the topics that I love. I practice Aerial yoga twice a month for my physical health which I love. As of now I’m becoming a hairstylist/MUA, I have done weddings to fashion show makeup looks. I was once a little girl that had pink hair with heavy black eyeliner in middle school who was known for a unique look and love to make friends from all kinds of personalities and until this day I get to meet incredible people. I am a content creator who loves to meet other creators like me & influence and inspire others to better themselves as a person. It’s been an incredible journey so far and I can’t wait to see what’s next for me. I just graduated from cosmetology Nov 2024 ! And I will be accepting new clients soon!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Making your ideas a reality can come with obstacles. It’s best you choose your dreams wisely because time is not always on your side. In my case finance and support hasn’t come easy but I choose to not give up on myself, my dreams and accomplishments. To always chose myself despite the circumstances. I went from being homeless at 15 to getting a degree, a license and inspiring others that have more than me in life.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Since I was little girl I loved to sing and dance wear fashionable & questionable outfits. At 6 years old I lost my biggest supporter, my father tragically. I was adopted back into my family at 7 but started dealing with chronic depression as I got older. I saw a therapist rapidly and after many sessions her only advice I took seriously was when she said “you only live once what are you going to achieve?” I knew I had to do something to distract myself from feeling all the pain and trauma that had gone through. I decided to change my outlook on life, and decided I wasn’t going to live for others but myself. I know my life path isn’t normal and it’s hard for ordinary people to digest me but as they get to know me their judgement of me goes away. I love beauty, colors and looking beautiful because it makes me wake up in the morning to achieve my next goal everyday. Makeup & fashion have always been very therapeutic to me. So I understand those that do it as-well, I also have a good sense of style & creativity like glitter or spark into whatever idea I’m trying to achieve. I love dying & cutting hair mainly, there so much deep into colors it’s very beautiful. if my story can inspire a little girl like me then that’s one life I’m saving.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I have taken many risk. My biggest risk has always been moving out of town to another one. It’s a risk because you meet people and you never know what you’re going to get. You can’t always trust people so I say follow your intuition when it comes to choosing friendships, relationships, finances or hobbies. Specially finances always be ready and have a back up plan because you only have yourself. I’m not in a relationship but I love the idea of one, I am a single mother, I have a puppy and soon will have a kitten I have my pet kids to feed.
