Life & Work with Farnaz Amin of Katy TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Farnaz Amin.

Farnaz Amin

Hi Farnaz , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up with a love for art that’s at the center of everything I do. Art isn’t just a hobby, it’s how I make sense of the world and how I connect with others. Over 25 years, I’ve dedicated myself to creating, teaching, and sharing art in all forms, from oil painting and drawing to crafts, resin, and fine art workshops, welcoming people of all ages to explore their creativity.
My journey started with formal art study and developed through a lifetime of practice, exhibition, and teaching. I’ve trained in multiple countries and exhibited work internationally, gathering experiences that shaped both my style and my approach to teaching. I founded Beyond the Canvas Art Studio & Gallery as a space where people can discover their artistic voice, grow their skills, and celebrate creativity together.

At the studio, we provide inspiring classes, hands-on art camps, and creative gatherings, from birthday parties and private events to sip & paint nights, all designed to help students connect with art in a meaningful way. For me, art isn’t just a profession, it’s a way of life and a bridge that brings people together.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road and we are still very much in the early stages of the journey. Building an art studio from the ground up takes time, patience, and a lot of persistence.

One of the main challenges has been turning a lifelong passion into a new, growing business while learning the operational side along the way, from managing expenses and scheduling to building awareness in the community. As a new studio, growth doesn’t happen overnight, and there have been moments where progress felt slower than expected.

Another challenge has been balancing creativity with the practical demands of running a studio, especially in the beginning. Wearing multiple hats as an artist, instructor, and business owner has been both exciting and demanding.

That said, these early challenges have been incredibly valuable. They’ve helped clarify the vision, strengthen the foundation, and reinforce why this studio exists, to create a welcoming space where people can explore creativity, build confidence, and connect through art. We’re excited about the direction we’re heading and committed to growing thoughtfully and sustainably.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My work centers around fine art and creative education, with a strong focus on oil painting, drawing, mixed media, and hands-on art experiences. I specialize in teaching art in a way that is approachable, encouraging, and confidence-building, whether someone is picking up a brush for the first time or refining existing skills.

A big part of my artistic journey is a deep curiosity about different structures, techniques, and cultures. I’m constantly learning and exploring how art is expressed across traditions and contemporary practices, and I love translating those influences into my own work. This often takes shape through oil painting, dot mandala art, and modern painting, which allow me to blend cultural storytelling with personal expression.

Beyond technique, I’m known for creating a welcoming environment where creativity feels safe and accessible. At Beyond the Canvas Art Studio & Gallery, we offer structured classes, art camps, private lessons, and creative events such as sip & paint nights, birthday celebrations, and community workshops. My approach emphasizes self-expression, patience, and helping each student discover their own artistic voice rather than copying a single style.

What I’m most proud of is the impact the studio has already had on its students, especially children and beginners who arrive unsure of themselves and leave feeling confident and inspired. Watching people grow creatively and emotionally through art is the most rewarding part of my work.

What sets me apart is the combination of decades of artistic experience with a deeply personal, student-centered teaching style and a global perspective. I don’t believe art is only for the naturally talented. I believe creativity can be learned, nurtured, and unlocked in anyone. That philosophy is at the heart of everything we do at the studio and continues to guide its growth.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories is spending quiet hours drawing and painting, completely lost in the process. From a young age, art helped me relieve stress and feel calm and centered, even before I fully understood why. Those moments gave me a sense of peace and freedom that stayed with me.

Art became a safe space for me, a place where I could express myself, reset emotionally, and feel better during challenging moments. Looking back, those early experiences shaped not only my love for art, but also the way I teach today. I try to recreate that same sense of comfort and emotional release for my students, encouraging them to use art not just to create something beautiful, but to feel good in the process.
