Today we’d like to introduce you to Gracie Linares
Hi Gracie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Originally, my plan in life was to become a psychologist and specialize with little ones. I had gone to high school and studied four years of child development. I fully believed this was my path. That is, until I was a year into my program in college, and fell down an online rabbit hole of cosmetologists.
I started coloring my hair when I was 12 years old, and had done my family and friends over time. It never seriously occurred to me that I could make hair my career and livelihood.
Fast forward a year and some change – I am completing an intensive apprenticeship with an amazing mentor with 20 years in the industry while simultaneously building my business from the ground up. There is nothing easy about learning how to run a business, especially at 20 years old, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No path is ever linear. Being in a one on one apprenticeship with a successful entrepreneur is such a rewarding experience. She is a fountain of knowledge pouring into me – but the work is all mine to do. Searching for clients daily through the usage of social media can be rather tedious, and discouraging at times. Creating a name for yourself when no one knows who you are is intimidating. You find the folks who love you for you, but it takes time truly.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I take great pride in creating bonds and friendships with every woman who sits in my chair. Creating beautiful hair is only one portion of the job – allowing women to feel beautiful and comfortable is the majority. I want people to know they are taken care of, and that they can be whatever version of themselves they want in my room. I adore creating beautiful, bold hair transformations and the conversations along the way.
How do you define success?
If you are happy with the person you are becoming in terms of your business, and you are able to create the life you dream of, you are successful in my book.
