Today we’d like to introduce you to Harley Langberg.
Hi Harley , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was living in the meatpacking district of NYC about 12 years ago. One day, I came across this food art photography exhibit at Chelsea Market. I had never seen this form of art before and was completely amazed by it. I grew up cooking since age 5 and have always loved art being surrounded by the best museums and art galleries here in NYC where I grew up. I also took art history classes in high school and then in college. That day, since I was in the market already, I grabbed some eggplant, bell peppers, and rosemary and created my very first food art piece modeled after Banksy’s “Flower Thrower.” Since that time I became hooked and have created hundreds of pieces since, grown my Instagram to 40,000 followers and have partnered with over 75 companies from The Food Network to Netflix. I’ve done all my own brand partnership outreach and press getting myself into People Magazine, on the Today Show and on the Tamron Hall Show. I’m very proud of how much I’ve accomplished.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It wasn’t always smooth. Some brands were harder to work with than others. For example some brands had unrealistic expectations and wanted me to create things that were impossible to do with food. Some ingredients like spices were much harder to use. As time went on I figured out which ingredients worked better than others.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a food artist and have been creating edible images of art for the last 12 years. I use everything from fresh produce to meat and seafood to candy. I’m most proud of how much I’ve achieved completely on my own through my own hard work and hustle. I’ve worked with brands that I can only dream of like Apple and Netflix and gotten into magazines I grew up reading like People.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Nope
