Hi Heidy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am the person behind the scenes of Bites-n-Sites HTX! Initially a close friend and I started the page together shortly after finishing grad school. We finally had more time to do more exploring, really enjoyed finding hidden gems, visiting new places, and taking fun photos. Now it’s just me, but Bites-n-Sites HTX has been such a fun outlet. I also often had friends ask for restaurant suggestions or nice locations where they could take nice photos and Bites-n-Sites HTX has allowed me to document my findings all in one place while sharing cool spots around the city and beyond with others as well.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I actually created my page a while back but was not really active until mid-2020. I was shy about putting myself out there at first, but slowly have become more comfortable and found that the community of content creators is actually very supportive. I find that the biggest challenge is being consistent and dedicating the time.
I work full time as a school psychologist and have to plan out my outings for content creation during evenings or most weekends. It can be tough getting ideal photos during times when more people are out and about. During this experience, I have also learned how much time and work goes into creating content.
As an audience, we see the finished product, but there is so much that goes into getting to that final product. I have learned a lot, but am excited to learn much more and grateful for the people I have met along the way!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My page showcases a lot of food and beverage places from restaurants to bars and coffee shops, but I also share about events, pop-ups, artwork and murals, businesses, and services around the city. Additionally, I have always been intrigued by interior design and am particularly drawn to commercial interior design.
I love observing how the layout of spaces, color schemes, and decor impacts the mood and overall experience of the consumer so I also try to capture and appreciate design with my page. I love to travel as well and will share some of my travel adventures here and there to help others also find spots and experiences beyond Houston!
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
There is always so much to see and experience, so I would say my sense of curiosity! I personally find that visiting a new place, doing something new, or just having a change in scenery has the power to make me feel inspired when I am feeling like I need a recharge. By highlighting my findings and experiences, I hope others can also find something that will make them feel inspired or excited about. I also enjoy connecting with others and like receiving messages that my page has helped someone plan a special event, birthday dinner, a girl’s night, or a fun weekend. I love seeing others enjoy places or experiences they’ve found through my content!
