Today we’d like to introduce you to Izabella Curtis.
Hi Izabella, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always been a creative and caring person since I could remember! I went from drawing on the walls in my parent’s house with anything I could find as a kid. To oil painting and finding my love of working with my hands while studying in New York! But throughout my artist journey, I’ve found my passion as a curly hair artist! Now I get to paint and design on curly hair and help curly people be them!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey has had ups and downs. Struggling with my mental health has been one of my biggest challenges. However, through my visual arts, I have been able to break through my boundaries and express myself in positive ways!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I work at Planet Curls in Houston, TX! I’ve been working here full-time since 2021. However, it feels like I’ve been working there my whole life. My mom had a dream to create the first all-natural curly hair salon in Houston 11 years ago and here we are today! I am currently a stylist in training! I work with curly hair clients to help them love and embrace their natural curl pattern! My mom, Gerri Curtis, has been my biggest inspiration! Not only her but my two older brothers, Charlie and Andrew, are master stylists and are so full of curly knowledge and wisdom!
What do you think about happiness?
My boyfriend Matthew has brought me so much joy! To have someone in my life who loves me unconditionally supports my outrageous creative ideas, and pushes me to be the best version of myself has uplifted my life in ways I cannot express!!! Not to mention, he has amazing hair! The little life we have created in the Heights has been an amazing journey!
