Today we’d like to introduce you to Janvi Oza.
Hi Janvi, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Born and raised in Houston, I was exposed to a myriad of cultures and expressions. I developed an interest in sports and monetizing my creative identity at a young age. My interest in sports started back in middle school – I wanted to make friends and connect with people, and all my classmates were big soccer fans. I still have vivid memories of watching the 2016 World Cup. In 2020, I joined a mentorship program with a local TV station here in Houston, which gave me the confidence to greenlight my career. I knew that being in a city like Houston, there would be endless opportunities for me to start my career. All I had to do was believe in myself, meet people, and not give up. I just finished my third season with the Houston Dynamo and in between I’ve been involved with Liga MX, CONCACAF Gold Cup, Mexico National Team, and more. I’m not here by accident; I have something to bring to the table. I’m so thankful to everyone that I’ve met on my sports journey. I truly wouldn’t be here without their support and guidance. My biggest lesson in the past four years has been that pursuing a dream is a grand adventure in self-discovery. You find out who you are and what you are made of.
What I do: “I am me!” My basic gift is my ability to be the first and inspire people. Once I set my mind on something, I go for my goals and what I want. I am a Host/Reporter and Content Creator in sports. In 2020, I decided to green-light my career and chase my dreams. Since then, I’ve worked with many renowned brands and teams but above all, found my truest self. I also started a lifestyle blog called Life With Janvi back in 2022. Meeting new people and talking about our shared experiences became one of my favorite things to do. For anyone reading this and wanting a career in sports, start creating your content, and don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. One day, you’ll look back and thank yourself that you started.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest challenge I’ve faced in my career so far is self-trust. Honestly, self-trust is something I stepped in more fully only this year. Trusting myself means listening to my intuition AND believing in my most authentic self. I’ve always had a strong intuition, and I can recall moments since my childhood where my inner voice was screaming to do something, but I pushed it down because that idea sounded too naïve or out of my comfort zone to follow through with it. There’s no shortcut to the unfolding of your intuition; the only path is through discomfort and stepping out of your comfort zone. That is where the real growth happens. As humans, it demands considerable strength, but fortunately, there are effective ways to provide support during these phases. This includes having mentors, prioritizing self-care to nurture your body’s sense of security, and engaging in regular mindset work to anchor yourself into new beliefs. For me, having that strong inner voice and pushing it down was extremely frustrating and when I finally started to trust it more than I trusted other people, everything shifted, and life became easier. I eventually learned that only you can know in detail what your dreams look like and feel like.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Sports Host/Reporter and Content Creator. Sports and stories are two of my biggest passions. I love creating digital content to help tell the story of an event, team, or athlete. Aside from sports, I create lifestyle content pieces such as Get Ready with Me’s, Gameday Vlogs, and more. My goal is to have my social media be purposeful and provide valuable insight into my career and life experiences. Creating conversation and being authentic are two things that are important to me.
What makes you happy?
Being surrounded by people that I love makes me really happy. If I’m having a rough day, I like to go back to the basics and have a good self-care day and watch an episode of FRIENDS. I love exploring new parts of the city and trying new restaurants. City walks, and visiting a bakery are one of my simplest treasures. One of my mottos is to be where your feet are and go all in on what’s in front of you at the moment.
