Life & Work with Jenna Guillory

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenna Guillory

Hi Jenna, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My passion for photography started at a young age and developed through film photography courses in college. I began photographing families and newborns over a decade ago and have been doing so ever since.

Over the past decade, I have continued to grow Jenna Duncan Photography into the Houston and Friendswood Family, Maternity and Newborn photography business it is today. I focus on capturing light, joy, and precious, organic moments which sets my work apart and is loved by each of my wonderful clients.

I offer all of my clients the use of my dreamy field locations or one of my two cozy studios located in the Heights and in Friendswood, Texas. I have a client closet with 30+ dresses for Mommas to borrow as well as newborn wraps, and kids boutique clothing from newborn through 5 years old. I also work with an amazing makeup artist who is the absolute best at making my clients feel and look incredible for their photos!

I pour so much love into my clients and their photographs and it truly is a joy to provide each of them with a relaxed yet luxurious experience and beautiful photos and artwork that they will cherish for a lifetime.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey of creating and running my own Houston and Friendswood, Texas Family, Maternity and Newborn photography business has certainly had its challenges along with so many amazing moments. Over the past 10+ years, I have, of course, faced both personal and professional hurdles all while juggling a busy work schedule, raising my two beautiful young children on my own, and managing the financial and marketing aspects of my business along with the fun, creative side of it.

Providing a luxurious, hands-on, tailored-to-you experience for my clients involves so much more than just clicking the camera shutter. I’ve gained knowledge not just in my camera settings, lighting and design but also in website building, marketing, branding, taxes, insurance, and keeping toddlers (and dads) entertained and happy during their photo sessions!

I also recently released an iPhone Photography 101 Course which can be purchased through my website. That was so much fun to create and also taught me so much about the technical aspects of creating digital media too! I’ve had so much amazing feedback on the course so far so it was definitely worth it!

Also recently, I relocated from the Memorial/Spring Branch area to Friendswood, Texas, which has opened up opportunities to connect with families in the Friendswood, Clear Lake, League City, and Pearland areas. Although moving my home and private photography studio to Friendswood was a lot of work and a little scary, it’s gone better than ever expected! I’m excited to get to know many amazing families in Friendswood while still serving my incredible Houston clients too! I also now have a studio to use in The Heights as well for those who prefer not to travel to Friendswood for their session. What seemed so scary at first has been a wonderful experience! Come visit me in Friendswood sometime!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Houston and Friendswood, Texas family, maternity, newborn and first birthday/smash cake photographer. I specialize in natural light and lifestyle images. My goal is to create beautiful and genuine family, newborn, and baby photos that are emotion-filled, relaxing, and enjoyable for everyone involved.

To make the process easier, I have curated a closet full of gowns that are flattering for all body types, which mommas can borrow for their sessions. I also provide boutique clothing for newborns, babies, and kids, along with a guide that includes direct links to clothing and styling assistance. Additionally, I can coordinate hair and makeup as well as a florist for families who desire it.

During our photo sessions, I encourage cuddles, tickles, kisses, and stopping to enjoy the moment, which leads to stress-free and organic images filled with emotion and meaning.

As a mother myself, I understand the challenges of busy family life. My mission is to help other Mommas take the time to feel beautiful, spend quality time with their families in front of the camera, and walk away with gorgeous images and artwork that they will cherish forever.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The Covid crisis has taught me and, I believe, many small business owners the importance of valuing each individual client’s needs. Everyone person has their own unique needs and beliefs, and as photographers, it is our responsibility to protect our clients while personalizing our care for them. As a Houston family and newborn photographer, my work involves close contact with brand-new babies and little kids, so I’ve made it a priority to ensure the health and safety of each family and baby I photograph. I believe it’s crucial to always do so in every way possible. My clients mean the world to me, and I want them to always feel that I genuinely care for each and every one of them – because I do!

I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to create beautiful and meaningful memories for families throughout the Houston area. I cherish every parent, child, and family that I have the privilege to meet and photograph. It brings me immense joy to witness my clients’ families and children grow year after year. If we haven’t met yet, please reach out! I would love to meet and work with you!
