Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonny Blue.
Hi Jonny, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Jonny Blue. I’m 24 years old & I am a Creative Director & music manager. I can say that as a child, I was always interested in the creative process of presenting artists & projects but I started producing music in college in 2016. I wasn’t in a good space mentally or physically at the time. It caused me to stay inside more often but really study various producers. I ended up leaving college in 2018; I was about 430lbs but full of music knowledge nevertheless. Creating music became tough & towards the middle of 2020, I had ballooned up to about 505lbs. That was the last straw for me. I decided to take my physical & mental health more serious.
As my mental health got better, my music simultaneously got better. I eventually started producing for local Houston artists. After getting my weight down in 2021, it allowed me to have more confidence to physically approach artists & network with musicians. Towards the middle of 2021I met & started making an album with a R&B artist by the name of Shalyn. I really give credit to her for helping me fall in love with music again. We created an album called Moon After Moon and released the project towards the end of 2021 In 2022 I started making more beats for an artist named ANANII who I already had a relationship with from making music together years before. The idea of me managing him came up one day & up until that point the idea had never crossed my mind until I understood the role I was already playing with this artist. Through ANANII I met & started manager an artist named 3900 BG. The rest is history.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I still produce music full time for artists. I eventually want my label Relatable Records to be a household name like Lyrical Lemonade. I want to branch it out to clothing & many different accessories.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I see myself growing more in the music industry & building those connections for my artists & myself. I see my label “Relatable Records” being a huge home in the music scene in Houston. I want to create an ecosystem that cultivates life-changing music in my city through the years.
