Life & Work with Kadrien Yelsom of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kadrien Yelsom

Hi Kadrien, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Kothello. was born from a place of passion and purpose. When my grandmother passed away during my college years, I found myself searching for a way to channel my grief into something meaningful. She loved to sew, and that love for craftsmanship became my inspiration to create.

I started with pocket t-shirts made from exotic materials, then expanded into leather t-shirts and sweats. But over time, I realized I was following trends rather than fully expressing my own creativity. That moment of self-awareness pushed me to redefine my approach—to build something truly original, something that represents limitless expression and individuality. That’s when Kothello evolved into what it is today—a luxury streetwear brand with a deeper purpose and a relentless commitment to authenticity.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been anything but smooth, but every challenge has shaped Kothello into what it is today. In the beginning, one of my biggest struggles was staying true to my vision. When I first started, I found myself chasing trends instead of creating something truly unique. That realization forced me to take a step back and redefine what Kothello stood for.

Beyond creativity, the business side presented its own hurdles—building brand awareness, generating sales, and establishing credibility in the luxury streetwear space. There were times when progress felt slow, and I had to learn patience, adaptability, and the power of persistence. But every obstacle reinforced my belief in what I was creating.

Kothello is more than just clothing—it’s about pushing boundaries and inspiring people to feel limitless. The journey hasn’t been easy, but that’s what makes it meaningful.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At Kothello, creativity is everything. We don’t just make clothing—we create wearable art that tells a story. Every piece is designed with intention, blending luxury with bold, unconventional aesthetics that push the boundaries of streetwear.

What sets us apart is our ability to fuse high-end craftsmanship with raw, artistic expression. We experiment with textures, materials, and silhouettes to create pieces that feel fresh, unique, and unapologetically authentic. Creativity isn’t just a part of the process—it’s the foundation of everything we do.

One of the things I’m most proud of is staying true to that vision. In an industry where trends come and go, Kothello remains focused on originality and self-expression. We design for individuals who don’t just wear fashion—they embody it.

At its core, Kothello is more than a brand; it’s a creative movement that inspires people to break boundaries and embrace their limitless potential.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
The COVID-19 crisis was a turning point for me as a creative and as a brand founder. It forced me to slow down and truly reevaluate Kothello —not just as a business, but as a creative platform with a deeper purpose.

One of the biggest lessons I learned was the power of adaptability. With the world shifting and traditional ways of reaching customers no longer working, I had to think differently. I used that time to dive deep into my creativity, designing hundreds of new concepts and refining my vision for the brand. It became an opportunity to not only create but also to rebrand Kothello into something more intentional, more refined, and more aligned with my true creative identity.

The pandemic reinforced something I’ve always believed—creativity thrives under pressure. In uncertain times, people look for inspiration, for something that speaks to them on a deeper level. That realization pushed me to make Kothello more than just fashion—it’s about self-expression, confidence, and breaking boundaries.

Looking back, the challenges weren’t setbacks; they were the catalyst for transformation. And that’s what creativity is all about—constantly evolving, pushing limits, and turning obstacles into opportunity.
