Hi Kala, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a kid, I always looked forward to the annual State Fair. The amusement games, candied apples, and livestock shows were always a fun time. I remember the excitement of all the elements of the fair. It taps into all the senses! The lights and sounds of the rides and games and the smell and taste of the indulgent foods that we could only get at the fair! My passion for those State Fair style foods never went away.
I started the company in 2021 in Houston, Texas but the idea first came to me in 2014. I was in a place in my life where I had been working very hard for my employer, but I had no control over my own destiny and those feelings of passion, fun, and excitement were fading fast so I started to think about the exciting times from my childhood and the State Fair came to mind. I started recording my thoughts on a voice memo, but it wasn’t until 2021 that I went back to it. Through careful thought and planning, I began putting things in motion to launch the company, using that voice memo as my “North Star”. Those feelings and nostalgia are the foundation for the formation of Field Daze, LLC.
Field Daze – The Mobile Food Gaming Adventure is a mobile food company specializing in bringing “State Fair” style food and excitement to patrons. With us, guests can enjoy fried desserts, jumbo-size meats, and fun foods such as premium hot dogs, bacon on a stick, and fries.
Though food is the key mobile concept, Field Daze also provides classic, nostalgic yard and retro arcade games. Field Daze not only provides the food truck experience, but we enhance that experience by offering catering packages that produce a complete mobile food and gaming adventure!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road to forming the company was fairly smooth. However, the day to day preparation getting the truck ready for patrons took careful planning and optimizing time management. Working with food and beverages requires precision and attention to detail to ensure freshness and safety. I’ve had to navigate delays in shipping and limited inventory, forcing me to source supplies from a variety of local and national vendors. Through many practice runs and careful execution, I’m happy to report things are running smoothly.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I spent many years in business working for Fortune 500 corporations. My experience in business primarily focused on providing consumers and businesses personalized solutions that helped with efficiency and productivity. Taking the skills learned over the years, I decided it was time to venture out and bring a unique perspective to the food truck industry by providing a mobile “State Fair” experience. I’m enjoying being a new business owner and credit past professional experiences as being vital to my success.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Being in business for myself hasn’t meant doing everything by myself. I’ve been lucky to be surrounded by supportive family and friends. One friend in particular, Carlton Jordan, owner of Unforgettable Memories, LLC., event center located in Stafford, Texas has shown unwavering support to me as a new business owner. I can definitely say I’ve been lucky or maybe blessed, to have his support throughout my journey.
