Life & Work with Kamri Cole

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamri Cole.

Kamri, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I graduated from Howard University and moved to Los Angeles, CA to begin my career in acting. I realized the growth in my personal life would parallel with the growth of my acting career, which led me to book a lead series regular role on the show, Tough Love LA, which aired on TV One and Cleo TV. Along the way, I learned so many life lessons that would eventually turn into my first book, Moments to Myself. Initially, I did not want to write my book, because I thought I didn’t have anything to say.

At the top of 2018, the first seven months of the year, God had me live out my book. So every chapter in my book is a lived experience of mine. After the seventh month, it hit me like… “ohhh, this is what I’m supposed to write about” but even then I had to get out of the way of my own self before I could pick up the pen. Which looked like getting over imposter syndrome and all the thoughts of, “who’s going to listen to me? What makes me so credible to write about these things that I know to be true? How am I going to help people if I’m still helping myself?” But, those moments that are experienced when you live in the moment are so pure, so beautiful, and so special that I couldn’t NOT share.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The path to living in my purpose has definitely had many struggles and obstacles that I’ve had to overcome. For starters, I wasn’t even transparent about my desire to have a career as an actress because I thought people would judge my intentions for desiring this career path based on my looks. So dumb! I really had to get over myself and my own ego even to make the smallest steps towards my destiny. That was a self-imposed obstacle.

However, I’ve struggled to balance working for someone else’s dream and working for mine, which has NOT been easy, but needless, I choose me first and what’s really going to fulfill me. That may include working a job that I don’t like at first, but if it grants me the opportunity to have a greater chance of living the life I really want, I go with that and play the long game.

Even in writing my first book, I had a great deal of imposter syndrome, as previously mentioned, and again, I had to get out of my head and over my ego and just do what was in my destiny, which I’m SO glad I did! I really had to change my perspective of myself and take my own book’s advice of understanding and accepting who I am and what I’ve been called to do.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an author and actress based in Los Angeles, CA. Coming from Houston, I didn’t learn much about the industry, so I really take in every experience and opportunity that comes my way. I was in Houston when I auditioned for the show, Tough Love LA, and working on that show gave me so much experience as an actor and gave me a solid group of friends! Yes, our cast is now friends in real life since we’ve worked together.

In my book, Moments to Myself: Living in the Now, I talk a great deal about developing a deeper relationship within yourself so that you can live in your divine potential. It’s very important for me to guide others to learn how to live in the moment and be present. “Live in the moment” is more than just a saying, it’s more than just a basic principle in acting. It’s truly the most precious gift we have as human beings that are alive and have breath!

When you are present, you are able to see the supernatural scribbles of life that God pens for you. You’re able to notice coincidences that aren’t really coincidences and miracles that only a higher power could create. I want to act in films/tv and write bodies of art that reflect a world in which that is understood and being communicated.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
