Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathryn White
Hi Kathryn , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my career in beauty as a skincare manager for Sephora in 2010. I knew nothing about beauty, I was recruited based on my customer skills to work at Sephora. Overtime I developed a deep passion and love for products & making women (& men) feel beautiful! I stayed at Sephora for 13 years working at many locations in Leadership positions. Helping with education, writing training guides, education curriculum, artistry feedback and several managerial hats! After having my second child, having a flexible schedule became a priority to me, more time with my husband, Chris and my kids Jett & Benny. Being a mom came first to me always. One of my close friends Alex Smith opened Fine Line Cosmetic Tattoo 5 years ago and I took the leap to learn lip blushing. It fulfilled my passion of making people feel beautiful but in a more permanent way! Clients started to find me after I left Sephora and I brought my makeup & hair services to Fine Line! Now I offer makeup and hair for special events, makeup lesson- teaching you how to use what you own and permanent makeup offering lip blushing! All my clients have been word of mouth and I could not be more grateful!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Quitting my longtime job at Sephora was a really hard decision. They are an amazing company to work for and truly value their employees. I decided not to return after my maternity leave and start a brand new business as a new business owner. Looking back, I regret nothing but having more of a structured business plan and multiple services to offer right when I launched would’ve have given me a wider reach. It was a slow climb building my lip blush clientele, things really changed when I offered makeup services and lessons. Highly recommend diversifying your offerings! Not too wide, only in your expertise! I took clients for lip blushing for free for several months and partnered with Alex, the owner of Fine Line & my co workers on in the moment feedback!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a professional makeup artist and permanent makeup artist. I offer makeup lessons in a 1×1 or party type settings! I’m know for my soft glam, enhancing peoples natural beauty and keeping them looking like themselves. So many of my clients always say “i love my makeup so much because i look like me just better”
I’m proud that I launched my own business and have found success quickly in my first few years of business. I could not do this without the support of the women at my studio!
