Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Davis.
Hi Kayla, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have loved gaming since I was very young. My first console was a GameCube! But i didnt start streaming or making content until covid happened. I was originally going to school for Photography and video editing, but I have two different learning disabilities…..so I had to drop out of college cause online school was NOT working for me. During Lockdown i started seeing ALOT of TikTok’s on a game called Valorant. Its an FPS game that was on PC only at the time. so i went and bought my first PC! Shortly after i invested in some streaming gear and started posting clips of my streams on Tiktok and Youtube. Fast-forward to now I have acquired 91.5k followers on TikTok and was accepted as a twitch partner! I now get to work with Valorant as a creator and many other brands and games. I Have also been accepted into the Womens Guild and the Twitch Black Guide. It has been amazing to make a career on something I have loved doing since I could walk. I have had so many amazing opportunities, gotten to travel, and meet so many new people because of this and i am SOOO grateful.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being a women in the gaming community is hard. Being a black women in the gaming community is even harder. There have been many times i wanted to quit and give up but i surrounded myself with a amazing support group and friends who always push me to keep going and continue showing others who look like me they can also make it in this community.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I got certified in Adobe photoshop and premier pro when I was in 10th grade and I think gave me a big head start on the content creation journey. I would wake up early before work and stream, get offline and to go work as a receptionist and i would edit my own content on my downtime at work. I was constantly working and pushing out content to start growing a following. I ended up gaining a Huge following cause i started playing an agent on Valorant that not many people could play or knew how to. I Have now been recognized by Valorant from my content on that agent and even got invited to tour the Riot Games ( creators of the game) HQ while i was in San Diego for twitchcon!
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I am a HUGE reader. I love Romantasy books and will always talk about them with my community! sometimes its nice to take a break from gaming and just have a nice conversation with chat about our latest book buys and share recommendation. My favorite series at the time is Fourth Wing! If you like Dragons, Magic, and Hunger games vibes definitely check it out!
