Life & Work with Kenydi Nicole of Houston, TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenydi Nicole

Hi Kenydi, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Since birth, I’ve always had a passion for the beauty industry, and it has been my dream to own my own business while making an impact on others’ lives. Initially, I thought I would start my own marketing consulting firm, but God had other plans for me.

As a sophomore student-athlete at North Carolina Central University, I founded Simply Allure by K Nicole LLC. In 2019, I noticed the rising popularity of the lash industry, especially among people my age. Intrigued, I took a lash course in Baltimore, Maryland, where I became a Certified Lash Technician. I initially thought the lash industry would be easy to break into, but I quickly realized the level of patience, time, and skill required.

The early days were tough. Being from another city, establishing clientele in Raleigh was difficult, especially as a natural introvert. Balancing being a student-athlete while trying to build my brand added another layer of challenge. I ran track, which meant daily practices and weekend meets, but I was determined. I made appointments before and after practice and classes—I was going to make it work no matter what.

Every day, I immersed myself in the world of lashes. I lived, slept, and breathed lashes, watching tutorials day and night and practicing on friends and family until I felt confident enough to take clients. I still remember my first client—nervous and anxious, but grateful. Over time, my consistency paid off, and my clientele began to grow rapidly. I started building a well-known brand for myself in Raleigh.

However, I eventually felt stagnant and knew it was time for a change. I had always seen Raleigh as a stepping stone, not the final destination. In October 2022, I made the big move from North Carolina to Houston and officially opened bookings in November. The transition was humbling. Going from being fully booked every day to barely getting one client a week made me question if lashing was still for me. There were countless days I cried in my car, questioning everything. But through it all, I never quit. I knew my time would come if I stayed consistent, and that’s exactly what happened.

Now, five years into my journey in the beauty industry, I’ve been able to rebuild a successful clientele in Houston within six months, obtain my esthetician license, open my own studio, and continue growing my lash supply business. I’m forever grateful for this journey and for my support system. I can’t wait to see what else is in store.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The most significant challenge I’ve encountered was relocating to a new city and starting from scratch without any existing connections. This experience required me to reassess my approach and adopt a more humble perspective. Although I have faced numerous obstacles, I’ve come to understand that such challenges are inherent in entrepreneurship. They are often a sign that you are on a path to achieving greatness and reaching new heights.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At Simply Allure by K Nicole LLC, I specialize in lash extensions and excel at creating custom lash sets tailored to each individual’s unique eye shape. I also offer brow services and facials and run a local and online lash supply business in Houston. What sets me apart is my genuine passion for my work. I’m not focused on profit; instead, I strive to make a real difference in my clients’ lives. I am detail-oriented and dedicated to ensuring complete client satisfaction. My clients are more than just numbers; I invest time in building lasting connections with each one.
