Life & Work with Kerem Cengiz of The Woodlands

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kerem Cengiz

Hi Kerem, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I a.k.a Genghis, my journey into music started with guitar and singing, but over time, I found myself drawn to the energy and precision of electronic music. That curiosity led me to music production, where I developed a passion for Techno music. As I honed my sound, I released tracks that caught the attention of respected labels like Extima and Mainground Music. With each release, my music gained traction, and I eventually saw my track hit #5 on the Hype 100 Beatport chart. Recently, I had my first two DJ performance at Bauhaus, and I played several times in afterhours events in Houston. I have more tracks will be released in 2025. I’m constantly evolving, pushing my sound further, and excited for what’s next 🙌🏼

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. In the beginning, I faced countless rejections from labels, and many people overlooked me. Some organizers didn’t even bother responding to my messages. But instead of letting that discourage me, I used it as motivation. I worked hard and focused on making music so good that they couldn’t ignore me. Now, many of those who once rejected or ignored me have come to respect what I do

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a techno producer and DJ, specializing in both peak-time and melodic techno. My music blends high-energy, powerful sounds with emotional depth, creating a unique balance between intensity and atmosphere. I also handle my own mixing, ensuring that my tracks have a distinct and polished sound. What sets me apart is my versatility—whether it’s the driving force of peak-time or the melodic elements of techno, I strive to create music that resonates. My goal is to keep evolving and delivering tracks that make an impact on the dancefloor.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of a few key people. First and foremost, my wife, my friends Zafer Atabey, W, Mike Beck, and supporters who believed in me from the beginning kept me motivated, even when things weren’t going my way. The techno community, both online and in real life, has also played a big role in pushing me forward.
On the professional side, the labels that took a chance on me, like Extima and Mainground Music, helped bring my music to a wider audience. I’ve also learned a lot from other producers and DJs—whether through direct advice or simply studying their work. Every piece of feedback, every opportunity, and even every rejection has shaped me into the artist I am today.
