Life & Work with Kingpin Cash

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Kingpin Cash.

Kingpin Cash

Hi Kingpin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I first got my break in 2015 when I was passing out my CDs inside the club. The guy who put me in the game was HERM, He asked whether I wanted to help promote the strip club, and from there, I started doing my own events as an artist and got booked for my first show.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For the most part it has been a good journey it took me a while to learn the industry because it constantly changes especially coming from the CD era to the streaming era and now going viral is the key especially if you can just create a buzz online and translate that to real sales like merch, concerts, brands & partnerships..

I would only say is be careful on who you trust while doing business because it could be good, bad or ugly depending on who you’re dealing with.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As an independent artist, I book myself at clubs around the Houston area and in other cities; in some cases, the clubs or promoters will pay me for my services, or I will have a door deal with them for the event.

The most thing I’m proud of is being able to help artists get paid because I’m an artist myself. For example, if I’m doing a show, then I will include other artists with me so it gives them a chance to show their talent and get paid in the process

I think the thing that sets me apart from others is my networking and pride in getting things done because, at one point in my career, I wasn’t known or in very much demand, but now I can build an event or change the whole dynamic of a club by having a positive influence

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I’ve had plenty of guys and women help me along the way. One of the first I said was Herm, Porche Marde, who introduced me to Supa Unit(Derrick Johnson), and I started to get on the road with him and Webbie. Over the years, he was a major mentor in helping me build my career by giving advice or doing events with me
