Life & Work with LaTasha Ford

Today we’d like to introduce you to LaTasha Ford.

LaTasha Ford

Hi LaTasha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been making chocolate-covered treats for a little over 8 years now. Since I was a little girl, I have always been creative and love to be in the kitchen. I would come up with crafty and creative gift ideas for friends and family for special occasions. Essentially, I wanted to be an event planner because I was always over the top when it came to parties, or as my friends would say, “EXTRA”! Creating memorable parties/events was important to me. I had an idea some years ago to save a little money on my kids’ birthday party, so I decided to make my own party treats instead of buying them. I was amazed at how well the treats turned out and the feedback I was getting from the guests on how good they were, and requests to make treats for their upcoming events. Over time, I made treats as just a hobby for birthdays and events I was attending, but eventually, I started to get more and more requests, and I knew I was on to something bigger than I expected. Little did I know that the hobby I started for fun would turn into the small business it is today. I am definitely not where I want to be, but I am blessed to do what I love and offer my many varieties of chocolate-covered treats to the community and so much more. And as I continue to work hard and grow, I hope to soon have a storefront.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
IT HAS NOT BEEN A SMOOTH ROAD BY FAR! Being a single mother, still working a full-time job in the health industry, and managing a small business as I would say is not for the weak. As a 3-time breast cancer survivor, I have faced past health challenges that have also caused my business to take a backseat. There have been many days where I wanted to give up or just didn’t have the energy from trying to balance it all, but I keep pushing through. I have made mistakes along the way, but I have also learned from them. Some weeks are so slow where I have very little to no orders, and some weeks are very busy to the point of needing more hands to assist with the load. During the slower times, I use that time on marketing/promoting more and creating new ideas to draw more business. But I know that God has brought me through, and he has blessed me tremendously and there is so much more in store for Sweet Perfections Treats & More.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Sweet Perfections Treats & More is currently a home-based business in Richmond, TX. I specialize in chocolate-covered treat-making for any event or special occasion. I offer a wide variety of treats, from cake pops, strawberries, pretzels, rice Krispies, chocolate apples, and so much more. I am known for my customer treat boxes, bling berries (edible glitter strawberries), and adult boozy berries (liquor-infused strawberries). My custom treat boxes can be personalized for any occasion as a gift or a treat favor for an event with almost anything you’d like to put in it from my many treat options. The adults love my bling berries and boozy berries. They are always a hit to add to any adult event and one of my best-selling items.

I am most proud of my ability to stay consistent and determined to accomplish my goals year after year for my business. I never like to worry about what others are doing and just remain focused on the gift I was given of creating beautiful treats. What sets me apart from everyone else is my creativity and ability to bring to life the vision that my customers have for their desired treats. I pride myself on going above and beyond to exceed my customers’ expectations. My focus is coming up with new and creative ideas that will “WOW” my customers, and to continue creating beautiful treats that not only look good but taste good. I want to create treats that everyone will remember and say, ” I have to have her treats for my next event”!

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important thing I have learned is to not get distracted and remain focused. I am such a perfectionist and have to give myself more credit for how far I’ve come. There are so many things that can distract or deter you, and I know that things will not always go as planned, but as long as I stay consistent, everything will align as it should.
