Life & Work with Lauren Falls

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Falls.

Lauren Falls

Hi Lauren, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
In 2009, my journey as a hair and makeup artist began in Houston, Texas, where I embarked on an exhilarating path within the vibrant world of Indian bridal makeup with a (At the time) new Houston-based company. From the outset, I played a pivotal role in nurturing and getting the company up and going, aiding its growth and establishment. As I honed my skills and expanded my repertoire, I gradually transitioned into catering to a diverse clientele, now specializing in all cultures and ethnicities, extending my expertise to various Houston wedding companies and commercial projects. The allure of the runway and the hustle and bustle of backstage led me working prestigious fashion shows in 2010 and on. Yet, amidst the whirlwind of opportunities, it was within the realm of weddings that I discovered my true passion. Exploring every facet of the industry, I found fulfillment in the intricate artistry and emotional resonance of bridal makeup and hair, solidifying my dedication to crafting timeless beauty for brides (and their family and friends) on their special day. When the pandemic hit, it rocked our world in all areas, and so I took on a new position (AND PASSION) with a local cosmetic company that led me to the world of teaching my art to everyday women and even young teens. I LOVE TO TEACH, AND seeing my clients/students ‘GET IT’ when they finally overcome whatever obstacle was addicting BUT SO MOTIVATING and I loved being a leader to these new artists who continue to amaze me with their potential and eagerness to be the best in their craft… but to this day, I still find my main passion being in the wedding industry and sharing such special moments with my brides and their families. To sum it all up, I JUST LOVE SHARING THE WORLD OR MAKEUP AND HAIR. Whether it is applying and making someone feel their best or whether it is training a new artist and watching them grow into their calling, I TRULY LOVE it all!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This industry is anything but a “smooth Road.’ You have to have thick skin to make it in the world of constant critiquing and emotion. People take their appearance very seriously, and it’s my job to do so as well. It’s always been important to me to take constructive criticism very seriously and never lightly. This is how I have grown into the artist I am today. I am able to pivot fast and rework anything that isn’t necessarily hitting the mark. You also run into MANY strong personalities if not with your clients but also with your either colleagues or competitors. But MY MOTTO: I’m my only competition… My goal is to be better than yesterday and to learn from every hiccup that might pop up along the way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
What sets me apart? SO MUCH!!! First, let’s start with I’m like a one-stop shop in one person. I am an entrepreneur who offers hair and makeup, ALL KINDS. I JUST HAVE A WAY WITH A MAKEUP BRUSH, but I am also able to offer my clientele my Digital Creator services, which go Hand in hand with my photography. I love all things revolving around creativity. And I love to learn. I will always seek more and more education to be the best at what I do. But to top it all off, I have a very calming presence about myself that makes my clients feel at ease. I love being there for my clients (whichever side of the business they are coming from) and keeping them focused on their goals, whether it be in the digital creation world or another example is on their wedding day. I bring peace and patience, and I’ve been thanked numerous times for my calmness during the midst of whatever chaos was taking place. I take pride in being this person for my clients.
