Life & Work with Lulu Romero of Houston, Westchase

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lulu Romero

Hi Lulu, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I never planned to start a business,it was a natural extension of my healing journey. As a new mother, I was deeply committed to healing in all aspects of my life. I started meditating, taking nature walks, and working with crystals. At the time, I was in a toxic work environment, which took a toll on me. I began making my own jewelry because I wanted to carry the energy of crystals without having to wear big, bulky stones.

When COVID hit, work became even worse & I ultimately had to quit. I applied for over 100 jobs but didn’t hear back from anyone. Meanwhile, people who saw my jewelry started asking for custom pieces, which inspired me to keep crafting,it became a way to stay busy and focus on something positive. After a while, I decided to put my art out into the world.

Being self-employed for two years wasn’t easy, but through this journey, I discovered my passion for art and creativity. I started volunteering at community centers, teaching kids how to wire wrap, which later led to summer jobs as an art teacher. Teaching and creating became a source of inspiration and motivation, and I knew I was on the right path.

Now, five years later, I have four brick and mortar locations. My pride and joy is my booth, C35, at Painted Tree Westchase, where I’ve merged my love for plants with a metaphysical plant shop, complete with a live botanical wall. There, you can find all kinds of my creations, from intentional jewelry to unique new pieces that blend nature, energy, and art.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been smooth, rainbows and butterflies but a rewarding learning experience. Some of the many struggles have been setting a foundation for my business, with no funds or experience. Especially during covid felt like i was in a dead end. Marketing myself, rain and shine having to put my self out there.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a wire wrapped artist who uses natural elements like gemstones, plants, and trees to create tools for grounding and intentional, beautiful jewelry. My work is deeply rooted in helping others, combining art and healing.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What i like best about HOUSTON is the people & hospitality! Phew, we out chea with love! Something i dislike, haha it has to be maybe the crowded places. Im an introvert so i can easily get over stimulated being out
