Life & Work with Maria Gabriela Rondon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Gabriela Rondon.

Hi Maria Gabriela, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
From a very young age, I always wanted to work in television. Over the years, it was clear to me that I wanted to be a journalist and I always put my best efforts into achieving it. I started working as an assistant in a school kitchen to help my mother pay for my studies. Then I worked in a newspaper in the city I used to live in Venezuela.

While I studied to become a journalist, I was also a full-time worker. I evolved over time until I reached work in a local television channel. Sometime later, I had the opportunity of a lifetime and it was to become a correspondent for Venevision, (one of the most prestigious channels in my country),

Four years later with all the political changes that Venezuela has been facing, I had to move on in giving up that dream, my dream, Afterwards, I worked a year in the corporate communications field, until due to political threats I was forced to flee from Venezuela and come to the United States to start over my life from scratch.

I lived for years in Miami. I started preparing French fries in a fast food truck. Three months later I became the producer of an opinion program on Venezuelan news, on the Mira Tv (TV channel), with Leopoldo Castillo, a renowned Venezuelan journalist. Four months later the channel went bankrupt, but I was able to buy a car and decided to work at Uber for a few months. Shortly after I received another great opportunity and that was to join the Venezuelan news channel EVTV as a TV producer. I was there for 4 years as a reporter, presenter, and producer. In 2021 he decided to resign in search of opening the door to the Hispanic TV market. I had a lot of difficulties but an encouraging year towards achieving my goal, during that year I worked as a delivery for Uber, Doordash and Instacar. In July 2022, and after applying for many positions in Hispanic TV, I managed to enter and now I work as a news reporter on the Univision45, Houston Morning’s show.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think it has been a way blessed by God and I really don’t think about obstacles, but about learning. Although, perhaps the most difficult thing to go through is all the time I have spent away from my family and my mother. It has been six and a half difficult years in that regard, but knowing that she is the flag of all my efforts.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a journalist. Especially a television reporter. Every day, I am in front of the Univision45 cameras to bring viewers the best local news. What sets me apart from the rest, I think, is that it’s always me at all times and I talk to you about the news with all my passion and heart because it’s what I really love to do. What I am most proud of throughout my career is that I have never given up and I have always been willing to give my best.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
First, who are you and what are you achieving to be a better person? My mother and my family, to be healthy and never forget where you come from. If you are healthy and you are clear about what is in your heart, the rest only comes as an addition.
