Hi Marissa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hi, I’m Marissa De La Cruz, raised in Luling, TX — where my love for beauty first began. Beauty has always been woven into my story. My journey into hairstyling started long before it became my career, from childhood haircuts and styling sessions to painting nails and preparing hair for special events. What began as play naturally evolved into purpose — and that purpose became my passion: helping others feel confident, empowered, and beautiful.
My first role in the industry was assisting at Cerón in Upper Kirby, where I spent two invaluable years building my foundation. That experience shaped not only my technical skills, but also my confidence and professionalism. I had the privilege of learning alongside incredibly talented stylists while contributing to fashion shows, weddings, and special events.
Now, five years into my career, I continue turning my dreams into reality at my wonderful salon home, Collective Hair Co near Greenway Plaza — where creativity, connection, and transformation come together behind the chair.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, but every experience throughout my journey has shaped me into the stylist and person I am today — and for that, I am deeply grateful.
Two years into my career, I faced one of my greatest personal losses with the passing of my grandfather. Navigating that season while continuing to grow professionally challenged me in ways I never expected, but it also strengthened my resilience, perspective, and passion for my craft.
I’ve learned that finding the right salon home — and the people who become your salon family — takes time. But once you find that space where you feel supported, inspired, and aligned, everything begins to fall into place.
Through every chapter, I’ve remained committed to growth, creativity, and staying inspired within this ever-evolving beauty industry.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in lived-in blondes, customized color, layered haircuts, bouncy blowouts, and hair extensions. Beyond creating beautiful hair, I value building genuine connections with my clients and helping them feel confident, aligned, and deeply connected to themselves. I’m passionate about continued education and constantly refining my craft to expand my creativity and deliver my best work.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The quality I value most in my success is consistency. Showing up every day with the same level of care, attention to detail, and dedication to my clients has been key to building trust and delivering results. Consistency in both my work and my mindset has allowed me to grow steadily in this industry.
