Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Lee and Heidi Peterson of Rootless Destinations.
Hi Melissa and Heidi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Heidi and Melissa’s friendship goes back over 30 years. We have always wondered what secrets may be hidden in the great city of Houston. Now we discover not only what secrets Houston holds, but we also tour the entire state of Texas. Rootless Destinations explores nature, abandoned places, art installations/parks, and historical cemeteries, sharing the history of these locations with our community.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When we decided to share our adventures with the community, knowing where to start was a challenge. We received our first video cameras from a close friend, who then taught us the basics of camera use and video editing. Once we mastered our equipment, we created our social media channels to share our stories. Being first-time creators of a media channel, it was a bit of an obstacle to figure out how to gain followers. In just over three years with the overwhelming support of our community, we can proudly say we have hundreds of followers, and that number grows by the day.

The passion and dedication we give to our adventures is not only for us, but for our community as well. We share the beauty, mysteries, history, and tell the stories of this city we are proud to call home. Houston is a diverse city, full of hidden gems, with a rich history most residents don’t even know about. Rootless Destinations is thrilled to be able to share these enigmatical places with Houstonians, and recent transplants to our amazing city.

Did you know that at one time, we had a resident pirate? Or that there’s an old crypt under a bridge in downtown? Neither did we until we started exploring!
