Life & Work with Miya Parker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miya Parker.

Hi Miya, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my research for CHANTE approximately a year before I presented the brand to the world. The journey to where I am today has been a bit overwhelming but mostly exciting! Just watching my brand grow makes me smile and encourages me to continue. I don’t operate CHANTE as a small business and I never will. It is a brand, my brand and I’m going to do whatever it takes to become wealthy off of it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been pretty smooth so far. I’ve had minor discrepancies but nothing that couldn’t be resolved in a timely manner. Drop shopping always has some problems, whether it be from the companies we ship with or the companies we ship from. Entrepreneurship isn’t easy, but it’s worth it.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I consider myself an artist. I own this store, but I also have experience in and offer services such as personal styling, website design and more. I am most proud that I am a young black woman who wears many hats! And shoes! CHANTE is the one of none and that’s what sets me apart from others.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I would say that I was very emotional, open, very forward and I really cared about my appearance. I was always interested in design. I even interned for a part list and a couple of designers prior to beginning CHANTE.
