Today we’d like to introduce you to Mochii.
Hi Mochii, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
So I’m from Houma Louisiana and I moved here to Houston after serving time in the military. I initially moved here to go to school, but in the back of my mind, I’ve always known I wanted to do music. After about two years of constantly changing majors and working as a brake technician at Brake Check, I figured that I’d take a swing at this music stuff. I fell in love as soon as I dropped my first single “Papers” with the homie ET FoneHome. The feedback was pretty cool. Actually, it was amazing! It felt like it was what I was supposed to be doing. It was a shock to me that people could connect with me through my music. Seeing that inspired me to be real and true to who I am because you could inspire a whole generation by just being yourself. And by being myself, I’ve created opportunities that help me continue to inspire others and pursue my dreams as a musician.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Hell Nah! You are on the wrong road if everything’s going smoothly. I came to Houston broke and lost. I eventually found myself though, but I was still broke. There isn’t a lot of money in being a creative starting out; so balancing consistency in creating and also providing for myself to be able to live in Houston was a struggle.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
So I’m an artist, audio engineer, producer, performer, pianist, etc. I’m just an all-around musician. My main focus is being an artist. I’m also a premium engineer at one of the top studios in all of Texas. The Barron Collective! There I work alongside artists from all over and help them cultivate their sound. I take pride in being able to go into any aspect of creating music and being able to get the job done. Like do you want a feature on a song, do you want me to engineer that song as well? oh, you want me to add some keys to the track, do you want to create a beat from scratch? Whatever you need, I’ll be able to get the job done. Also, we’ll having fun while doing so!
