Life & Work with Moses Hernandez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Moses Hernandez.

Hi Moses, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born & raised in Houston, TX, and I’ve lived in Houston all of my life. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to travel outside of Texas, but I’ve been to different cities and parts of Texas. Ever since I was a young boy, I’ve always been very observant of my surroundings and what other individuals like my siblings would do. I would always try to analyze and think of why they would make certain actions and see the cause and effect of what happens. Learning this has helped me evade a lot of different problems that has happened with my family and my fellow peers at school and working environments. It even helped me learn quickly on how to get from different locations without necessarily needing a GPS after going to a place just once since it being observant involves using memory power. Something about me is that I love creativity and learning about what benefits our environment and ourselves. I love being outdoors in parks, forests, and nature, which is why I love taking pictures in these kinds of settings. It’s very therapeutic in both ends. I also love learning about wisdom, knowledge, and different perspectives and points of view of others from a psychological standpoint.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t been too easy for me. Getting a camera wasn’t necessarily easy due to the cost of one. In addition, I was quite introverted to ask people to get a picture of them or to even set up a photoshoot. After I started realizing that the worst that could happen is getting a “no”, I’ve been able to step out of my comfort zone and just ask individuals left and right for a photo or to do a photoshoot in the future. Also, other things that were rather challenging is figuring out where I wanted to focus my photography. As I was getting better with a camera, I began to realize that I’m a lot better in portraits than landscapes or other forms of photography. In addition, I loved doing outdoor pictures because being in parks or being around nature or nature-like settings and doing photography at the same time is very therapeutic to me.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Something about me is that I love nature. While I don’t necessarily mind city settings, I’m not really a big fan of it due to the excessive amount of buildings, noise, and saturation. I love space and the feeling of being able to breathe deeply. My photography usually tends to focus more on outdoor settings, however, I also occasionally will do city-like settings such as street photography, architectural, and even events. What I can say what “sets me apart from others” is the passion, purpose and versatility. It’s not to say that I am better than others, I do have a lot more to learn, but I am always carrying a student mentality to continuously learn and be willing to try new things. Something I’m very happy with my “brand” is the will to not only start it in the form it into something courageously but also to realize that there are no comfort zones. You’ll be blessed once you put in the effort to achieve what you’re shooting for and take failures as mistakes instead of burdens and mistakes. We’re all bound to mess up, it’s just a matter of what we learn from it and try better. My brand is just about “my life” and what I bump into. It even tells a story from my point of view or even other people’s point of view. It’s about being able to walk calmly and firmly, even when there’s so much commotion going on around us. It’s just realizing that similar to trees, we must remain firm, be rooted, be strong, and benefit what is around us. Also, like a tree, we must remain firm no matter how bad the storm is. In terms of my services,I offer mostly photoshoots of any kind, but I also do real estate, architectural, food photography, and basically almost any kind of photography. I’m a photographer who is adaptable and willing to learn something new.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I love speaking with individuals and learning from all kinds of people with different points of view, cultures and backgrounds. It’s one of the main reasons why I am studying psychology. A big part of me wants to obtain my PhD to become a Clinical Psychologist. However, I would love for photography to be my main career! I’m very passionate about it, and I want to travel to different places around the world and continuously build my skills in photography and other important things that I can learn! A quote that I usually stand by is: “Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside while still being alive. Never surrender”. – quoted by Tupac Shakur.
