Life & Work with Natahia Corsey of Northeast Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natahia Corsey

Hi Natahia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
“Life isn’t linear but never lose the plot”. Throughout life, you are always asked “where do you see yourself in 5 years?”. I’ve always known I’ve wanted to be successful, but I never really knew how I would get there. I was raised in a household that valued education. I received my high school diploma from Kashmere Senior High School. Graduating college is a goal I set for myself to make my family happy. I enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves to assist with covering tuition. I attended the University of Houston as a Health Sciences major with a goal of becoming a pharmacist in a major hospital in the Texas Medical Center. Sometime during the second semester, I was advised my G.I. Bill was not submitted correctly and that I was $12,000 in debt with the school. I was forced to dropout until this payment was made in full. I tried to start over at Lonestar College and HCC but after a year at both schools, I was advised that I could not continue until my UH transcript was provided. Lost and confused, I gave up. I opted to get a job and start over with the dream of success I held onto. Just as I felt I was finding my place in the workforce, COVID-19 hit us and I was back at square one; unemployed and once again lost in what I should do next. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I found I was pregnant. I fell into a deep depression state. I felt as if any attempt I made to move forward, I was always knocked backwards. I was able to get a job at a gas station near IAH airport as the options were very slim during early 2020 of job choices. I hid my pregnancy out of fear of being denied the job. I stopped working at the gas station when my pregnancy became noticeable and I felt I couldn’t handle the job anymore. Sweeping the full parking lot, cleaning restrooms, gathering trash from each pump, cleaning the car wash…I couldn’t handle it. After my pregnancy, I told myself that I needed a plan and I needed to stick to it. I still had the dream of a successful life but still years later had no idea on how to achieve it. I got another job at a temp agency that was fully remote; but lost it because I could not afford a babysitter and my newborn baby could be heard in the background of my calls. I eventually realized, I had so many great people in my life. What are they doing that they are successful in life and I’m so stagnant? I began to network; ask questions. Eventually, a friend introduced me to the job I have currently. I now work for a major vehicle manufacturer. The opportunity was great and the pay was more than I have ever made. I finally had another chance at success! I still work for the manufacturer and my son now has his own room for him and all of his monster trucks! I also create content with hopes to eventually develop a second stream of income for myself. I have a YouTube channel and I create content for brands on Instagram and TikTok.
I want my story to inspire others to keep going and always keep in mind there is always another way. “Life isn’t linear but never lose the plot”.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Some of the struggles I faced throughout my journey taught me how to keep going; even when i didnt have a plan or idea as to what was next. It was a struggle to continue to push myself.
Another struggle was the mindset you are conditioned to have when living in the “hood”. You have to work on your mentality as well as developing yourself to be successful outside of the environment. It is especially hard when in some circumstances it’s all you know.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Outside of my job for a major automotive manufacturer, I am a content creator! My goal is to create an additional stream of income and grow a platform to help uplift and inspire other women around the world. I have a YouTube channel that can be found with my full name, ‘Natahia Corsey’. I also use my love of photography and editorial looks in instagram posts. I support small brands that need content in exchange for free products. Eventually, I want to grow and work with larger brands.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
My goal for the next 5-10 years is to have a home I can eventually pass on to my son. I want to grow and create more opportunities for myself.
