Life & Work with Nayeli Carbajal of New Caney, Texas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nayeli Carbajal

Hi Nayeli, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Since I was a little girl, I’ve always been the sister who loved dressing up, doing my hair, and being the diva in the family. I would also tell my parents that one day I would have my own business. From their my love for all things beauty made me want to get my cosmetology license and the passion to have my own business made me want to get my business degree right after high school. While I started college to pursue business, my mom and I toured The Paul Mitchell Cosmetology School . That tour made me realize my family couldn’t afford the tuition at the time. I decided to stick to business for a while, but honestly, I hated it. Especially all those math classes I had to take. Math just wasn’t my thing, so I switched to psychology with dreams of becoming a therapist for kids with mental disorders.

After graduating with my bachelor degree in Psychology I worked with kids with autism for three years and loved it. But when I thought about leveling up, I realized I’d need to get a PhD, and that wasn’t something I wanted to do. Then COVID hit, and I decided to step away from my job and focus on social media. I created My YouTube channel that was based on videos of my beauty routines, fashion hauls, and vlogs, and overnight my youtube channel took off. With me pursuing this new career I had a lot of time on my hands which made me met a friend who owned a body contouring salon. I became her client, then her model, and eventually joined her team. I fell in love with helping women feel confident but wanted to do more.

Even though I loved what I was doing, I wanted more for myself. I started researching and realized esthetics—not cosmetology was as my true calling. I thought I’d love facials, but waxing stole my heart. After getting my license, I worked at European Wax Center for seven months during those seven months I knew I was meant to do bigger things. The little girl inside me kept shouting to open my own business. I prayed and I took the leap of faith and opened my own suite in New Caney, TX. It’s been an amazing journey, and I owe it all to God, my incredible clients, my supportive boyfriend, and my family for always having my back.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I faced a few challenges along the way, like not being able to attend Paul Mitchell due to financial reasons, but I truly believe everything worked out the way it was meant to. One of the biggest struggles was juggling two jobs. Working at my suite from 8 AM to 3 PM, then right after I would head to my part-time job from 4 PM to 8 PM. I took on the extra job until I was able to build my clientele, and thankfully, I was able to leave it behind once I started to get booked. While there have been bumps in the road, I know they shaped me into who I am today and helped take my business to where it is now.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a licensed esthetician, who specializes in full body waxing, intimate skin lightening and lash lifts and tints. What I’m most proud of are the bonds I’ve built with my clients and being part of their special moments. I am also proud of myself and how hard I’ve worked to get where I am at today. What sets me apart is my ability to turn an uncomfortable appointment, like a Brazilian wax, into a safe, comfortable space. My clients leave feeling confident, educated about their service and their products. Another thing that sets me apart and that my clients love about me is that i’m always myself and very precise with my work!

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I believe taking risks is essential for growth, even though it can be intimidating. One of the biggest risks I’ve taken was leaving the stability of my part-time job to fully focus on my business. Another major risk was opening my business without a clientele. I just trusted God and took the leap of faith. I didn’t know all the details, but when God says “move,” you move. I’m learning to walk by faith, let go of fear and doubt, and make room for my blessings. God always knew I was capable; it was time for me to see it too.

To me, risk is about stepping out of your comfort zone and betting on yourself. While it’s scary, I’ve learned that the greatest rewards come when you trust the process and take a leap of faith. Even if it doesn’t go as planned, every risk teaches you something valuable.
