Life & Work with Oscar Melo of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Oscar Melo.

Hi Oscar, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When COVID was at its peak, I was unexpectedly fired from a company where I had worked for about six years. At that moment, I had over 20 years of experience in the millwork and installation industry, but I had never owned a business and didn’t know where to start.

Determined to provide for my family and continue doing the work I loved, I began researching online and reaching out to friends for advice. Some people were willing to help and share valuable tips, while others stopped speaking to me when I decided to start my own company. Despite the challenges, I took the advice that was given to me and used it to establish Melos Millwork LLC.

My first project was an out-of-town job, and I couldn’t have done it alone. My sons and a very good friends stood by my side and helped me complete that first project. Their support gave me the confidence to keep moving forward.

After that, I focused on finding projects in Houston and the surrounding areas. Through hard work and persistence, I connected with a great millwork shop that trusted me with projects. That relationship has continued ever since and has played a major role in the growth of my company.

Today, Melos Millwork LLC has grown into a team of 10 workers made up of family and close friends. We take pride in delivering quality workmanship, building strong relationships, and treating every project as if it were our own.

What started as a difficult moment in my life became an opportunity to build something of my own. Melos Millwork LLC is proof that with experience, determination, and the support of family and friends, challenges can become success stories.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
