Today we’d like to introduce you to Promise Braxton.
Hi Promise, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I became a wrestling fan at a very young age. I remember watching and asking questions when my father and grandfather had it on television. When I was a preteen, I was literally obsessed with wrestling. I had posters, videos games, and even had all my friends and siblings watching it at one point in time. It was this moment; I knew professional wrestling was my calling. I would “study” matches on YouTube whenever I got the chance and try to figure out what moves I wanted to do. Fast forward a couple of years; I just graduated High School, and there was a wrestling school that Kurt Angle attended. Knowing this, I got in contact with the school owners, and within a couple of weeks, I was officially a student of the business. I’ve always enjoyed learning about wrestling, so the physical training for me wasn’t necessarily difficult, but it did challenge my mindset on being rejected, also not receiving the answers that I’d like.
Between 2017-2019 I wrestled under the name Londyn Ali, and I can honestly say I had a great time. Wrestling all over the Northeast, making friends, and creating unforgettable memories. In late 2019 my family decided they were going to move across the country to Texas to start over. However, I stayed in PA, just doing my thing. At that point in my career, I wasn’t seeing much “progress,” just wrestling, but I wasn’t necessarily growing…just existing. There was nothing new, and I was feeling pretty defeated cause I knew I hit my ceiling. I remember talking to my mom, and she was trying to convince me to move to Texas because she really didn’t like the family being broken apart. She was telling me how I could “wrestle down here” and to see if there were any wrestling school by her house. Her saying that to me changed my whole entire life because Booker T’s Reality of Wrestling school wasn’t far from her house. At that moment, this fire in me took over. I remember watching their weekly shows and being inspired by the amount of talent that ROW had to offer. I made the move September 2019, and now fast forward… again, and I’m now a 2x and CURRENT Diamond Division Champion to the promotion I love so much. I’ve been very fortunate in my career so far. I’ve had the opportunity to wrestle for AEW Dark. In February, I had the honor of wrestling current WWE NXT Superstar Ivy Nile and, of course, having the x2 Hall of Famer Booker T directly in my corner and becoming his “Chosen One.”
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like most people, unfortunately, I’ve had my battles with depression and self-doubts. I also dealt with a lot of deaths in my family before and during my wrestling career. I just try to remind myself that every day is a different day and that the negative thoughts aren’t real.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
In the ring, I’m known for my aggressive but smooth demeanor. I consider my “wrestling style” Strong style/Hybrid because there’s nothing I can’t really do. I’m kind of like a wolverine… I’m not the tallest or heaviest woman you’ve seen. However, I’m hands down one of the strongest women in professional wrestling today because I put in WORK in the gym. Every time I get in the ring, it excites me because everyone knows that this is going to be an actual wrestling match. It’s going to be exciting and VERY physical.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Likes: I love how diverse Houston is. Seeing different people, experiencing different cultures, and eating different kinds of food is amazing to me.
