Life & Work with Robert Whitaker II

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Whitaker III.

Hi Robert, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I learned how to cut hair by watching a mentor of mine name Marcus when I was in high school. I started cutting my own hair and once people figured out I cut my own hair people started asking me for haircuts. I didn’t intend on cutting hair to make a living. Cutting hair was not my goal in life. Once I enrolled at Prairie View A&M as a mechanical engineer student my journey took off by word of mouth. I was in a summer program and at the time I was the only barber available to cut hair in my program. Once school opened full time I met a man named Tyler who was the campus barber. He would cut hair in my building everyday! I finally met him one day when he asked me for a haircut and he paid me 30 dollars for a cut. This was the first time I was paid 30 dollars for one haircut because I only charged 10 dollars. I only cut hair on the side but it wasn’t nothing I loved doing. Word got out around campus and people start booking haircuts after they have seen my work. With my dear brother Tyler passing away he always told me and my best friend Ace we will be running the campus soon. Soon enough he was not we were running the campus without a doubt. R.I.P Tyler you are truly missed! He has seen us being great before I have seen myself being great! I thank him dearly!

Years went on at PV and we were cutting everybody hair from professors, students, cops, staff workers, and NFL players. The haircut spoke for itself! It is safe to say cutting hair helped me survive in all my years in college! Haircutting made me who I am today. I graduated as a Mechanical engineer in 2019 and now I am working at the number one technology firm in the US as a cyber security consultant. On the side of course I cut hair daily because I enjoy cutting and I am blessed with God given skill!

Soon, I will have my own barbershops and barber college to teach people how to cut hair and have 2 hustles. I learned this skill will always keep money in your pocket and help you network with many people. I thank God for everything he does for even when I didn’t see it in myself but he has a perfect plan for my life! I am very thankful!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, the road is not smooth but I learned to keep pushing and believe in myself. You always do better betting on yourself! Don’t ever stop with anything in life!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a known barber in Houston Texas! I cut a lot of pro athletes and a lot of well-known men in Houston. I am skilled in all areas of the haircut game! I can do anything! I a most proud of how my name and craft grew in Houston. It amazes me how your craft can speak for itself! What sets me apart is I don’t rush haircuts. I take my time because I like to perfect my work and I don’t chase the money! I like for people to get a good conversation and relax and chill while they are able to receive a nice haircut! Your haircut is your image!

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
The advice I will give others is to never get discouraged when times get hard. Always work on your craft no matter how good you are! Most of all keep God first and trust His path for your life! If you believe it and believe in him you will always win no matter the timeline just stay consistent!
