Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosa Gomez Ruiz.
Hi Rosa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born in the Dominican Republic and moved to New York when I was 14 years old. The transition was intense. The cultural shift, the language barrier, and the feeling of starting over at such a young age shaped me deeply. I went from a small-town life to the fast pace of New York City almost overnight. It was both overwhelming and transformative.
As I grew into adulthood in the United States, I built my life step by step — becoming a wife, a mother, and eventually an entrepreneur. I explored different paths, including real estate and helping grow our family painting and remodeling business in Texas. On the outside, I was building a practical, grounded life.
But internally, something else was always unfolding.
Since childhood, I had experienced vivid dreams, recurring numbers, and subtle moments of intuition that felt like guidance. For years, I kept these experiences private, trying to make sense of them quietly. Over time, I began documenting them and noticed patterns emerging. What I once thought were random events started to feel intentional — like whispers shaping my direction.
That realization led me to write Susurros in Spanish and later Whispers in English — two separate editions that share the same spiritual memoir. Through these books, I tell the story of how dreams, intuition, faith, and subtle signs guided me through cultural transitions, personal growth, and entrepreneurship.
Today, I continue to build a growing community both locally in Houston and online — encouraging others to reflect on their own inner voice and life experiences. What began as something very personal has evolved into a platform for connection and conversation.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It was not a smooth road — especially when it came to writing this book.
Writing Susurros / Whispers required a different kind of courage. In it, I share deeply personal experiences — my dreams, my intuitions, and moments that shaped my spiritual perspective. That kind of vulnerability is not easy, especially in a world where people often judge what they don’t understand.
Spirituality can be a delicate territory. Everyone has their own beliefs, and when someone speaks openly about intuitive experiences or inner guidance, it can invite skepticism. For me, the biggest struggle wasn’t external criticism — it was the internal battle of deciding whether I was ready to speak openly about what I truly feel, dream, and believe.
Publishing the book felt, in many ways, like stepping out of the closet spiritually. It meant accepting that not everyone would understand — and being at peace with that. That internal shift required honesty, courage, and a deep sense of alignment with who I am.
In the end, the struggle became part of the growth. Writing the book wasn’t just about telling a story — it was about owning my voice.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As an author and creative, my work focuses on spiritual storytelling rooted in personal experience. My first book, Susurros / Whispers, is a spiritual memoir where I explore dreams, intuition, recurring symbols, and the subtle inner guidance that has shaped my life.
What sets my work apart is that I approach spirituality in a grounded, human way. I don’t present it as something abstract or distant. I write about it through lived experiences — cultural transitions, entrepreneurship, motherhood, doubt, faith, and personal growth. My work invites readers to pause and reflect on their own lives rather than telling them what to believe.
I am most proud of the courage it took to publish something so personal. The book is not theory — it is lived experience. Many readers have told me they feel seen when they read it, especially those who have had intuitive or spiritual moments they never felt comfortable sharing.
Beyond writing, I continue to build a creative platform through social media and community engagement in Houston, where I encourage open conversations about identity, growth, and inner awareness.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I appreciate most about Houston is its diversity. It’s a city where so many cultures, languages, and perspectives coexist. As someone who immigrated to the United States at a young age, I deeply value living in a place where different backgrounds are not only present but celebrated. There’s a quiet resilience in this city — people here are builders, dreamers, and entrepreneurs. Houston gives you space to grow.
I also love the sense of possibility. It’s a large city, but it still allows room for reinvention. Whether in business, creativity, or community, there is opportunity for those willing to work for it.
What I like least — if I had to choose — is how spread out everything is. The distance and traffic can make it harder to feel connected at times. But even that has taught me patience and intention. You have to choose where you invest your time and energy.
